make ur on hoho. Check the faq and how-to to make ur own intake than can be used as a short arm intake like the pics posted or a true cold air intake.

Anywayz, why dont u guys move the battery to the rear. The price is a dollar less in Summit now :D

i'd rather use 40 bux (shipped) to buy a civic intake to skip all the hassle, cuz i have to cut the pipe anywayz, and i have to buy more stuff than JUST the U pipe, i have to buy filter drill some holes, buy some rubber tubes.. it all adds up, and plus all the work, so for 40 bux, i'd get a premade one =D but that's just my opinion.

So, i have some questions, from what i've been looking around, i should do the following, rite?

Get a 92-95 civic SHORT RAM intake
cut about 4-5 inches off the FILTER SIDE of the pipe. and it should fit on perfect without drilling any wholes, right?

thank you again. =D

you got it man

but i am guessing ur getting a short ram intake that stays in the engine bay right? why not get a true cold air intake. I mean its worth the money and time u spend. Besides, u can use ur old rubber connecting hose if u want to or go to the junk and get it for a dollar from other cars from their stock intake. But hey whatever works right? :D

ok, thx a lot guys!!

but i am still having hard time deciding if i should get a SRI or a CAI!!! both cost around the same, but CAI requirs lot more work but gives better results!! arg!!!!

I'll post again after i buy/make either one of those, hehe

thx a lot again =D

With some thinking, you can make the shorty into cai. Run the SRI during rainy season and put the cai back on during summer. Up to you.

would cutting an intake short still make the same hp as it would if there wuz no cutting

the stock filter box has this little box screwed on it with black hoses do i just put a breather filter on it?? could someone please post pics of that part.

those are vaccum lines. the 88-89 did not have it other than the pcv hose from the valve cover. But u 86-87 guys had the pcv hose and two vaccum lines from the emission control box. I think you should either block the two vaccum lines from the vaccum box or just put a small adapter in and join both.

and the cutting of the intake, how long are u planning to cut? cutting the short intake wont do much, but it will look like a lil dick sticking out from your TB.

would u need to put a breather since the civic intake is not made for our cars

smufguy

breather where? on the valve cover? yep u gotta

Toby
11-27-2002, 03:53 PM
i got a hose with my intake pipe so i will just use that to go from intake pipe to valve cover.

smufguy

thats only if u buy one that is specified for your car and then the intake comes with a hole where u plug the pcv hose in. But if ur gonna make ur own like i am from the how-to directions, then all u gotta do is just use a breather on the valve cover and go with a more cleaner look. I hate hoses esp in a 3g efi where vaccum lines make things cluttered.

o and one more question for this topic, when i look under the hood, i looked at my stock intake piping, and it loox like if i take it out, it'll leave A LOT of room, is that right? or am i looking at rong things?

hoho1217

o sorry, another question also, if i were to go to my local home depot, do u think they'll cut off 4 inches off the intake pipe for me?

smufguy
12-02-2002, 02:40 PM
is hoho1217 and hoholxi the same guys? well anywayz, if u take out the stock, u will be left with a lot of room in the back of the TB and the front for the drip tube (the one near the radiator) and the u will be left with a decent amount of space. But do note, since our air box is behind the tb and not near the battery unlike other cars, ur cone filter would be sitting a lil inside the engine bay. or u can use a CAI with a lil bending and shit around the battery.

i just ordered a civic intake today, 38 USD shipped, now i need to know where i should go to get it cut, or how to cut it myself.

just take a hack saw, and keep cutting until the tube fits with the filter attached. it will be bumping up against the battery, so just keep trimming until it fits. make VERY sure that all metal shavings are cleaned out of the tube before you start your car or hook up the intake.

i had to cut off 4-5 inches, it was really simple. BUT i also had to buy a breather filter for some hoses off to the right of the stock airbox, and i had to drill 2 holes in the intake tube for some vaccum hoses that connect to the stock tube!

btw you are cutting off the end that the filter connects to, not the end that the attaches to the throttle body! just FYI// :)

ok, i recieved my intake today, and poked around with my stock intakes, and i see that there are 2 cable-looking thingys that goes into the tube close to the throttle body (not the one that goes to valve cover.) i was wondering, are those oxygen sensors? how do i remove them out of stock tubes, and is it safe it i just like hang them there in my engine bay?

I only had one hose to my stock intake piping, and it was the PCV hose. There should be a small pipe coming off the intake for you to hook the PCV hose to, along with a supplied longer hose. Mine was a cool/gay blue plastic one (its getting replaced with conventional hose soon). What I did is I removed the stock piping, then found where there was room for the filter to sit. Then I hooked up the new uncut pipe. Then I placed the filter on top of the pipe in the place where I wanted it to go, then marked it and started sawing. Be very careful; make sure you measure several times before you put the piping under the saw. After you cut, file the edge of the pipe that you cut to remove any shavings, you do not want your motor ingesting any.

hmm.... could it be the difference between a 89 coupe and a 87 sedan? well i dunno.

anywayz, ya i know about the PCV, but thx for the advice, as for the sawing, im not doing it myself, as i don't have the tools, im gonna go to home depot tomorow and have them cut it for me (they do these kinda of things, right?)

buy a hacksaw, that's what i'm gonna do, they aren't too much, i don't think. also, i was thinking of getting the civic intake from autozone($30) and it already has a spot to attach the pcv hose. do you guys think that it would be an alright intake?

also, if you read earlier in this thread, the '86-87 had a couple extra vacuum lines on the stock air piping that the '88-89 don't have.

hoho1217

so what exactly do i do with these vacuum lines, could i just pull em out of stock intake safely without breaking anything? and do i just something to seal it off?

You can see where I have the vacume tube attached also their is a nipple on the left and a black cover on the right it is a 92 civic AEM intake and it has three holes 32 grommits and 2 plugs it is all good you can use the promade holes and grommits for the vacume tubes.

WOW!, i installed it today, it's DAMN LOUD!!! and i LIKE IT!!

ok, as for the vacuum tubes, i left them hanging, open. and all other extra tubes (except PCV, i've connected that) are left open. is that safe?

I would just drill a couple holes in the intake pipe for them because they regulate something and you don't want to mess it up

ok, when you took off your airbox, did you have 2 hoses running into a smaller box that screwed into the large airbox? mine did, and i used a 9mm breather filter to give those hoses filtered air.

and yes, for the two hoses that are closer to the intake tubing just drill holes, and use little grommets and cram them in so they are snug! :) good luck, its not that bad!

yo dude, u got the two vaccum hoses from the vacuum control box that went to ur stock intake tubing right? u can do two things, since it just sucks in air or releases ( have no clue wtf it does, and only 86-87 have that shit) just let them be, u dont have to plug them or anything. if ur emissions fail, then u would know to put it back on ur intake.

Note: try plugging them and see what happens.
