I think that there were lots of accords built here at the US assembly plant, however there were some that were imported from Japan. I'm gonna guess that if you look at your guage cluster, the temp/fuel guage needles point outward rather then inward like the "America" models. Can you check that out b/c now I'm curious.

Mark, your user name looks sooooo weird with that 3geez foundation member logo under it. It makes it look like if you were one of the big shots here. :lol

I gotta get that!

mine says its made in japan. i know wut ur talkin about the american thing. i think 87 was one of the last 3geez made there. im not entirely shur but that could be right. i know that the new 2003 accord is made entirely in japan. i was reading that thingy on the window sticker. it said assmebled in japan. the new civic Si is made in england and i think partly in USA. i can always check at my dealership. they usually have the answer i need.

Easiest way to tell is by the VIN #. If it starts with JHM, then it was made in Japan (Sayama plant, I believe). If it starts with 1HG, then it was made in Ohio by Honda of America, Mfg.

I don't think they ever actually "stopped" importing the cars from Japan, they just don't do as many anymore. Back when our cars were made it seems like you see about an equal mix of the 2 (or maybe a few more 1HG than JHM). Browsing through ebay I occasionally see a 4th, 5th, and even 6th gen with a JHM vin, but most are 1HG.

Mine is JHM :)

1989 is when the honda accord was made in the US. There were still a few imported from Japan, but 1988 and older are true Japan cars.

The 3rd gen coupe was "born" and made in the US. So all the 3rd gen coupes in Japan were actually imported from the US and are left hand drive like us with the A20A3. Weird huh??

Oh yeah, mine's a coupe.
yeah, coupe market in Asian countries is low if any. I haven't seen any coupes for any honda models in malaysia.

one 88 and one 89, both 1HG... ...I want a JHM, but i don't think i could get use to the guages needles pointing the "other" way.

My 88 LX-i was made in usa. Ive heard the japanese built ones are higher quality but they rust worse than the American ones, any truth to it?
