Hello im new to the site and needed some help on my power steering dilemma. I went to go get another one because my older one started to lock my wheel to the left after sitting overnight in the cold and whines when i turn the wheel which was the other give away for me that i needed a new PS pump. But anyway i went to advance auto and try to get a new pump and they ask me if it had one flat or two flats which through me off because i had no idea lol. I just know how to change parts but didn't know what a flat was pertaining to the PS pump. Just need some help on which one i need to get for my 1989 Honda Accord lxi 2.0L, 5-speed. Also im having like a clicking or scratching sound when my car is idle after a cold start. It sounds like its coming from the tranny because when i let off the clutch after starting it starts making the sound but after it warms up its fine no sound. I figure that my clutch is going out hoping its not running my tranny. All comments and suggestion definitely welcome thanks.

When they ask about the flats they are referring to flat spots on the shaft. You would have to remove the pulley from the pump to find out. I worked for Advance auto parts for about 7 years. Not sure about the clicking while idle tho.

For reference the pulley bolt is LEFT HAND THREAD!!

I was having similar trouble and after a couple fluid changes and a PS filter the pump has worked like a dream.
