Anyone... i took of my rotor and pads, i have a fucked up, cracked, rotor (i got pics.. they'll be on the way), and i'm wondering.. the pads are only slightly worn... but..

the pads have a little ridge that wasn't worn down on the very outside edge of the pad's surface...

should i get another set? Or will these do?

Keep them. Your new rotor should smooth them out no problem. If you're worried you could always file it down some first.

I agree w/the previous post.

Usually the very outside of rotors rusts first, and then there is a depreciation in the outside diameter. Therefore, your pads will wear less at the outside edge.

But if they're only slightly worn, they should wear out evenly w/your new rotors. You would only lose a tiny percentage of breaking performance until they wear, and I think it would be a waste to throw 'em out.

Depends what kind of pads you have, if you have cheep pads, heres an excuse to get good ones (LOL) but they wont hurt anything as long as they arent really uneven

Another Q..

Should the pad hang off the rotor by a little bit?

hmmm..don't really get your question. But the pads should be in contact with the rotor everytime. Less when the wheel is moving, more when you step on the brakes and the caliper pistons push the pads toward the rotors.

Are you saying your pads are bigger/extend further than your rotors at the rotor circumference?

mindlos, that is exactly what i'm saying..

It is possible that you were given rotors for the LX/DX variants. It was my understanding that the 88-89 LXi (and SEi it would follow) had 14 inch alloys to fit bigger rotors and brakes while the scrubs (just kidding coz I'd be one of them :D) were rolling on 13s because their brake system and rotors were the same as the other older 3geez.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Actually I go check and correct myself if anybody hasnt.

That must be the reason. I went to www.napaonline.com to check the rotors and the difference is about 3/4 inch.

1989 SEi

Attributes: Rotor - Front
Diameter: 10 19/64''
# of Bolt Holes: 4
Bolt Circle Dimensions: 3.937''
Discard Thickness: 0.748''

1989 LX

Attributes: Rotor - Front
Diameter: 9 33/64''
# of Bolt Holes: 4
Bolt Circle Dimensions: 3.937''
Discard Thickness: 0.669''

I wonder what negatives that will come with other than the obvious fact that it will be harder to stop on the smaller rotors and less pad contact ....
