Ok...a couple of months ago, i bought a 1fd lightning audio cap off ebay, and it didnt come with any directions...so now i am stuck with the cap, but dont know how to use it.

I know what they do, i just need to know how to wire it up with my amps...anyone else running a cap???:stick:

run it inline with the power cable to the amp. As in a postive cable from the battery to one terminal in the cap and the other wire from another terminal on the cap to the amp. Hope that helps.

how many watts are you pushing with your amp?

Positive terminal on the cap goes to the amp and the negative terminal on the cap can either go to the amp or to any chassis ground.

The cap will charge as soon as you hook it up... it will charge it self quite quickly with an intense spark. Sometimes this action may overload or heat up the cap to the point that it can actually explode. I have done this many times, and I haven't killed one yet. However the best way of charging it for the first time, would be to use a small light bulb.

Connect the positive side to battery positive and temporarily connect the bulb to the negative post on the cap and a chassis ground. The light bulb will light up for a few seconds while the cap charges. When the light bulb turns off you can disconnect it and connect the ground up to the cap.
And you're done :super:

It should have come with a resister to charge it with.

It's actually a small bulb of a sorts.. any automotive bulb will work.

You may as well call a bulb/lamp a resistor.

well...i got some kind of card with it i guess it is to charge it...it has a couple of led's, and a couple resistors on it...one of the led's are red that says discharge, and the green one is charge...i suppose i put that under the terminals and let it charge, but now you all have confused me on how to hook it up...im running 800 watts out of my orion amp.

For sure, without a doubt connect it like you drew it on the second picture.

Actually I think your drawing should go in the Howto section so other people know how to hook up a Capacitor.
