i'm getting my CV boot replaced this friday cause it wore out and leaked the fluid out everywhere, and before my axle starts to click, i thought i should replace the boot since i had one lying around. Anyway, what is that fluid that was in it? Is it just "Gear Oil" or is there a special "CV boot gear oil" that i need to buy? Can someone let me know. Also, how much do i need to buy to have enough for the one CV boot replacement.

It's moly-based grease. Call the autoparts store and explain what you're doing and they should have some. 8 ounces is probably more than enough.

i said i'm replacing the cv boot BEFORE the axle starts clicking. I know what i have to do if the axle was clicking and i'm avoiding that and all the money involved by replaceing the cv boot now. Thanks for the info though, i'll pick up some grease tomorrow.
