Im so glad I found this site. Seems very organized with great help. Juat joined myself. Today I bought an 88 accord. Carbed, 5 speed and around 260,xxxmi. Heres the problem of many. Hell of a missfire. And it has a fuel problem. The guy i got it from had a universal fuel filter right beforw the carb (dont know if thats the spot for filter or not). The car will want to die unless it has gas, but if you have that filter level it revs up HIGH! I dont know if this guy raised the idle because of that filter starving it of gas. I dont know what it going on. Im a dodge guy. New to the tuner world and i want to Learn! Tach also go crazy. HELP!

You should be able to find most answers here with a search for carb high idle terms. You should do a full triage health check, compression, fuel filter down by the tank filler neck left rear wheel area, vacuum hose leak check, wires etc. Not much different than dodge other than comp cont carb which gets main feedhack from temp sensing dvices.

How expensive is a replacement filter?

Tach also go crazy. HELP!

Typically tach problems indicate a bad ICM.

For starters, after I had time to look her over i found a broken spark plug wire. Replaced it. Miss fire got better, but not gone. Then noticed that the secondary filter was not FULL with gas AT ALL. I watched it trickle into the filter. So im guessing its missing due to fuel starvation. Once fixed, how many vacuum lines can i get away with taking off? What is NEEDED? Without doing a weber swap.

Like 6 lines if you keep control box. Look over the vacuum removal guide.... crap I can't find it myself atm or I'd link it. GL!
Make sure you're not getting any vacuum leaks around the carb or intake runners.
I'd bet the last guy neglected the filter near the gas tank in the wheel well, or your fuel pump is going out from what you're saying about the filter near the carb. And there should be one there, maybe just replaced with a clear type?

Dam... noticed the date... Get it fixed? lol
