    thanks. it's fairly straight, but need to sort out a lot of mechanical stuff. the surging idle while warming up, the thowout bearing, (probably the trans rebuilt-dogs are pretty shot) struts, hvac panel needs attention, figure out why gorilla tape is holding the rain out of sunroof.. ha! fun stuff to do while i use it to commute.....

    A possibility: a temperature sensing issue. Crud in the cooling system can be a contributing factor to faulty temperature reading. Does the coolant look rusty or brown colored? Your cooling system might need a good flushing.

    yep. that's on the list. i will flush soon. i messed with the iasc (or whatever it's called) already and cranked down that control valve, it only does it a little bit at first. looks like the tranny might be first. rattly throwout, fifth gear is now done....
