odd brake sound-rear passenger drum

I have this strange sound coming from my rear passenger drum. It started about a week ago and happens every time i press the brake. I have been searching and scouring the Web for an answer to what this could be, but i don't really know how to describe it. The pedal has pressure but this noise is driving me nuts. i took this video of the sound when i stop. You can hear the sound begin around 4 seconds, it gets more prominent as the engine and road noise quiet when slowing.

It is completely possible that i am missing something completely, but i have never heard this sound, or any like it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are a few possible problems.

1. Your brakes are not adjusted properly. If so, it's likely that you have to pull the e-brake quite high before it grabs.
2. The shoes are installed backward. For each side, there is a front shoe and a back shoe. If they get swapped, it can cause noise.
3. The drums are out of round. Have them turned at a machine shop.
4. Finally, the brake hardware, which includes all the clips and springs that hold the shoes in position, needs to be replaced.

1. You hit the nail on the head with the e-brake grabbing high. I'll have to try that first.

2. I'm not discounting this possibility. Would it not have an issue for a year?

3. I was considering that myself. If the adjustment doesn't work then I'll have to pull it apart and replace it anyways. Thanks for saying that :)

I adjusted my brakes. They were way out. With the hand brake pulled the passenger drum still spun. I think i got it just right. no more sound, and the brakes are more responsive. The hardware looked good, drum seemed machined, and shoes looked like new.

Dude, why couldn't this have happened to you when I was 16 and no one could figure out what was wrong with my drums...

We did charlie...but you were 18 and knew everything so we /failed.

Drum brakes fall out of adjustment running strong. I like to adjust mine about every 6 months.

I did everything everyone said the first time around and the sound stayed. :shrug: <<< Why isn't that working anymore?
