I noticed a ticking noise when i accelerate. its quite loud and its definitely coming from under the hood. so what kind of things could be causing something like this. it gets louder and responds directly with the engine speed.

If it's coming from the engine then you'll need to adjust the valves.
does it only tick when you go straight or when you turn too?
check your oil level.
both straights and turns.
its ur valves... mine does this too... i dont care cuz in the spring, a new motor is goin in
Travis
could be detonation
so a valve adjustment may be the answer?
Mine do that too. I guess I'll have to figure it out how to adjust them.
or upgrade your gas quality to a higher octane
or you could retard the timing if it is indeed detonation/pinging and premium gas is your kinda lifestyle.
fuel grade ? then check ignition timing !! if not then check the valves !

I don't know why it does this, but on my parents Mazda MPV it seems to tick when it needs an oil change. As soon as you change the oil it stops, then will start up again when it's about time for another oil change.
my car putters like a fast steam / diesel engine when it needs an oil change. When it pings due to advanced timing that regular gas cant handle/bad timing it sounds like tons of popcorn popping. hope that helps .... :)
i'm already running 97 octane. my timing is advanced as well. it sounds kind of valvish to me.
If it ticks when the car is on even if you're not driving, then it's the valves. However, if it only ticks when you drive, like accelerate, then it could just be a loose nut that's holding the header. You might want to tighten all the nuts that holds the header.
mine ticks at high rpms or when I make a turn... Its kinda weird how if I turn it does it too but dones anyone know what it is?
i noticed that mine ticks more noticably in the morning when its colder outside.
