I'm trying to get the lower ball joint out... I'm swaping out motors... and I'm using Yasu's technique.
I got the pin out and I got the 17mm nut off the bolt... but the 2 parts aren't seperating. It's getting dark... please hurry someone.

Give the knuckle/arm a couple good wacks with a hammer which usually helps give it the "shock" it needs to seperate. If it is really stubborn, a puller or a pickle fork will get it out for sure. But be careful with the pickle fork as they tend to rip the boot on the balljoint if you bang it in too far. I like to stick it in just enough so it stays but doesn't touch the boot and pull the fork up (or down) with a pipe on the end. That way, you are prying the arm and knuckle apart without screwing up the boot or squeezing al the grease out. If you don't have a fork, put a solid nut on the end, screw that in about 2/3 (so you don't damage the threads or the end of the balljoint) and hammer that upwards. Don't use the crown style nut as the crowns will deform.
cool... I'll see if I can gat that picke fork... I've tried wacking the bolt already... :( I hope I din't screw up the threads in the process.
i guess i'm just bored, but yasu has a great choice of words, all in the same paragraph.....
"wacks"
"pickle"
"bang"
"I like to stick it in just enough so it stays but doesn't touch the...."
"screwing"
"squeezing"
"solid nut"
"DEFORM"

Thanks for pointing that out LOL.
haha that made my day. Ok thanks Yasu i got the engine out... if the rebuild get;s here on friday then that would be perfect... thanks.
Glad to here it went okay. Did my crappy method (pulling the engine/tranny out) work okay?? It's kind of tough the first time but it'll be a breeze if you ever have to do it again.
Oh and one other thing... i didn't realize there was so much ps fluid still stuck inside the place the axles meet up. I'm guessing I should refill it again.
it is ps fuid and not trans fluid right? oh well I'll check both once the new engine is in.
Hmm I was just so unsure how high I had to lift the engine before I could pop the axle out.
I bought a pickle fork... it worked wonders. :D
oh and I almost for got to unhook the auto trans cable when lifting the engine.
Do you mean where the axle pops in (tranny fluid)?? Or where the speedo cable plugs in the tranny (PS fluid)? And I did the same thing with the auto shifter cable LOL.
I'm pretty sire it all came from where the axles pop in... so it's tranny fluid. shoot. and I was hoping that part was seperate.
