Lude Trannys
OK im seriously looking into the lude tranny swap. Right now I have an auto on my LXI, but i was thinking of going with a 2nd gen lude tranny, does anybody have an si or carb tranny in their accord and did it make a huge difference compared to the regular accord lxi 5 speed? Also i was thinking about going with the prelude 1.8 carb tranny, but the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch are different, and so is the gearing and flywheel weight. Does anybody know if the mounts, axles and linkage and difference in flywheel weight and with the shorter gearing are compatable with the accord?

You should just go with a 5speed conversion!

Unless you feel like swapping the diffs or hubs as well then you have to use a 86-87 Si tranny. The Si uses the same axles, clutch, flywheel, mounts, etc as the accord. The carbed lude uses a smaller clutch/flywheel, saves about 4lbs give or take, and smaller axles. The only way to get that tranny to work is either swap in the accord's diff to accept the larger axles or swap your front hubs for prelude ones to accept the smaller axles.

I guess ill be looking for a Lude SI tranny. I have a 5 speed from an lxi already but i was thinking about going for the better gear ratios, the boneyards around here have more 2nd gen ludes than any other foriegn vehicle. Is the shift linkage and pedal assembly is the same with the Lude SI as accord? How much better are the lude ratios?

I believe you need the pedals and linkages from an accord. The Si isn't geared that much better then the LX-i. If you can't get a cheap Si trans just stick with the LX-i one you have.

I had the Si tranny. It is a bit shorter than the LXi tranny from 3rd up to 5th. 5th turns pretty high cruising on the freeway. Like Phydeux said, If you have the LXi just stick with it unless you get an Si for cheap.
