Max LIfe
This is my first car. its a 88 accord LX with a 2.0L 2bbl carb.
it has 176,000 and it runs nice. it doesn't burn oil or anything. the engine is rusty and nasty looking. should i be concerned? before i go and spend a few g's on this car is it going to last me a while?
-
Well it will probably end up costing some money like any car would. I heard from a Pennsoil distributor and he told me that all oil is oil. It doesn't really matter what you put in it. He said the best oil to buy is the oil from a plant that just opened up b/c it would be the cleanest. I would suggest putting a fully synthetic oil in it because it is getting into the higher miles and that would help it out a little bit. For starters get a tune up and get everything checked out.

Uhhhhh, FYI, this post was not about oil. I know probably everyone thinks "Valvoline Max Life" from the title, but the guy is referring to the max life his motor will probably receive lol, not the name of the oil. Does anyone really read the question or just the title? LoL...
-
Well the question was kinda vague and could have been about oil also.

*Rolls eyes* Surrrrrrrrrrrre...........
Just messing with ya lol...

I think every 3G is worth putting a few G's into it. IMO

Yeah, spend those few G's replacing the rusted out parts and rebuilding some internals, then it'll last you another 200k. Or even without, it'll probably give you 300k atleast. It's a 3gee for crying out loud, probably the best made Honda as far as lifespan goes. I'm still on my stock motor, 196k, and I race this honey daily. Biggest problem so far? Stock clutch (yes 196k on it) finally went out (slipped too damn often). So ACT Hybrid came right on in, and it's a new car now lol....

My clutch lasted until 130k these cars will last a really long time even without good care but if you take care of it, it will take care of you.

Biggest problem I think they have is as far as the starter. And I've had a few mechanics tell me (before I became a mechanic) that their oil pans tend to give problems. But in the scheme of things, those are pretty minor repairs. Better than trannies that last 50k, or valves that'll strike the pistons if you overrev once, or...I dont know, ANYTHING is worse practically...

thanks for everyones input. im going to make this car a keeper

Good for you. It took me about 6 month to realize just how good of a car our 3g's are, and now I plan on doing everything to possible to make it bad ass but not to ricie. Another good thing to do is take a degreaser and clean up your engine compartment. That will give you a better look at the condition of everything. Another thing I love to do is make it smell good inside. The ladies love it.:D
