Clean APC cone filter or get new/better one?

Ok, I did that Civic adapter thingermabob to carbed DX and just got the APC CAI for the 90something Civic. Anyways, I live at the end of a gravel road and my filters get very dirty very fast and it is past time to clean the cone filter that cme with the CAI. My question is: Should I just clean the filter I have, or would a K&N be better to throw on the end? If I should just clean the APC filter, how do I? I doubt I should use water, cuz I'll probably end up with a big mud cone. On the quads I used to have we would rinse out the filters with gas, but they were foam and we could wring them out and all that, can't exactly squish a metal screen and expect it to return to it's original form, but would running gas through the filter work? Sorry for all the dumb questions, just trying to figure out what to do.

Maybe you should throw away that APC CRAP and get yourself a REAL filter.

Heh heh anyway........Most of the CAI filters can be cleaned with a combination of good ol warm water and soap. K&N sells a kit with special soap in a spray bottle and oil to spray on the filter once its dry.

Stay away from APC!! I have the filter and it sucks big time!! Just get yourself a better one.

Should I just go with a K&N cone filter and throw it on the end of the APC CAI? The CAI is ok though right? Why is the filter so crappy? What makes this one any better or worse than other brands?

I'm sure the intake is ok. All they are are big metal tubes that direct the air to the throttle body (or carb). I'd get a K&N or something similar. Most filters like the K&N enhance the air flow and do a better job of filtering the air then the cheap ones do. And K&N has a lifetime warranty. Most filters you can buy from a speed shop are good filters. And you can usually get them for cheaper then K&N also. Just stay away from APC. All their stuff is cheapo crap.

Ok, I have been to several automotive shops and none of them carry a K&N that will work. I try to explain to them what I need and they are just :huh: They keep asking me what type of car I have and everything, but the just don't understand that it is custom made. They all want to order a K&N for an 87 Accord but that won't work because they will get the rectangular one for the stock air box.:stick: Does anyone know the part number of the K&N that will work, or what are some other brands the I could look for. There is a Thriftys near me that has some cone filters that would work, but I'm not sure if they are any better or worse than the APC I have on there now. They only cost like $20 so I would assume for that price they're probably about the same as an APC filter, but these have a bunch of pretty colors. :bow: So, does anyone know the number of the K&N that will work, or another brand that will work just as well?

Just find a K&N cone filter that has an opening that will fit your CAI. If they dont have any in stock that look like they'll fit, just ask to look in their K&N catalog and i'm sure you'll find something that will work. How big is the tubing on your CAI?

horsepower freaks has a bunch of different filters. They have one for like 14 bucks. i'm not sure if it'll work but you can take a look.

I believe it is 3", maybe 2.5". Not too sure, I guess I should probably measure it before I go buy anything, but I do think it is 3".

Any autozone or advance auto parts will have conical style K&N filters, just measure the inlet size you need.

K&N filter 2.5" diameter (RX-4010). This is the one I got but they are extremely backordered so it could be awhile. It will cost you $70 at Autozone, but if you look online you can get it for $50.

go K&N. K&N is made to be washed....most other filters are not. you CAN clean them...but with risk of damage to the filter fiber.
