Grinding through turns

I couldn't find much through searching. I have an 89 LX.

The car runs and drives good. The steering is fine and the brakes are good. The axles were replaced about 5K miles ago.

The problem I am having is that at low speeds you can hear a low grind. Nothing too bad but definitely audible. It sounds like metal to metal contact that is just scraping.

When I turn, it gets pretty loud. Yet again, it is a metal to metal scraping but when I turn sharp it is almost pulsing. If I brake and turn at the same time it is VERY loud.

I looked at:

Brake pads - Very good condition
Rotors - Newer
Calipers - Originals but seem to be operational
Bearings - Well... I don’t know. But they are not loose and didn't make noise spinning.
Axles/CV - Looks brand new

So I guess I am stumped. Is there something w/ the dust shield that might somehow be scraping? It honestly sounds like the dust shield scraping... but I didn't see any signs of it off hand.

I was also thinking it might be the wheel bearing, but is there any real way to test them to know if it is it or not?

Check to see if one of the caliper pistons is stuck or locked because of an air bubble in the brakelines. The pulsing is usually due to the brakes in some form or fashion especially with the metal grinding sound. Check the rotors again for scaring.

Check for clearance of suspension components such as the tie-rods and ball joints to make sure nothing has splintered off and is scratching the backside of the wheel.

I had a problem with the wheel well water shroud falling off and touching the tire while driving and making a pulsating noise.

Something to consider. I know you already verified those items, but it would be to your advantage to meticulously check again.

Just put the front of the car on jackstands, take the front wheels off, then look for scrapes. It is the only way to find out what is wrong.

It could also be the CV joints, if the bearings weren't reman. correctly, or something else, they could be shot. If you can't see anything scraped in the front suspension, I would replace them.

did you check the back brakes?

I guess what I was saying is that I look over these components listed above and all seemed to be in good working order w/ no signs of excessive wear.

Essentially... I looked at everything that I personally thought could be the problem and can't seem to find the source of the noise still. Being that I have looked at most of the components in the noise area, I was looking for other suggestions other than those listed.
