New Install!!!!

Audiobahn A8000T amp (400x1 4ohm, 800x1 2ohm)

Single RF HX2 in a Sealed box (500 RMS) 2ohm dual's


Right now, I have the amp seeing 4ohms from the sub. It pounds good despite the incredibly sealed trunk in the Jag.

I need to go back and rewire the sub back to 2ohm and pull just under 500 watts out of the amp.

Does anyone know how to figure out how much the amp is giving out at any given Gain setting? I think it has to do with VOLtage readings..... Right?

it is very hard to figure out what is the right power. you will need oscilloscope to measeu the peak wave. check your local stereo shops, they should be able to tune it.
anyway, 500watts per coil or for the hole sub?

power (watts) = volts x current

Checking the current draw of the amp will have be measured by a 'high end' ammeter that is capable of measuring more than 10amps.

You could also get a general idea of the output by multiplying the fuse ratings on the amp with the voltage of the battery when the car is running.

ex; 30amp x 14V= 420watts.

well, the sub is 500 RMS, 1000 peak.

2ohm duals. Is that what your trying to understand?

hey goldy if you need help figuring the formulas for power or anything PM me, I have a book in my desk here at work that has all the formulas that the avionics guys have me dig thru sometimes plus I think I have some at home from when I got my engineering degree. Just gimme the specs on the amp and I'll see what I can pull outta my ass for ya

you cant get a dual 2 ohm sub to run a 2 ohm mono load... you can run 1 or 4 ohms...

Your right, HOWEVER I only hooked up 1 voicecoil to the amp. Not both. If I did both, like you said, it would go 1ohm.

Doesn't that fuck it up only hookin up one voice coil??

I have been having problems with the amp going into protection mode with only a 1/3rd Gain setting. it got hot pretty fast.

Knowing that I was running 8gauge wire and a Measly 40 amp fuse, I knew it had something to do with not enough current. I just hooked up 4 gauge to it and a 80 amp fuse, it seems to do better.... I deal with 100 degree heat and no cool air goes into the trunk. The amp has a built in FAN,

But I think i'm goin to do a setup involving some axilliary fans....I just dont know what....

why not just bridge the sub at 4 ohms.. i bet it would sound alot better.... if only 1 coil is getting power, the other just sits there and weighs it down... take a wire, run it between one positive terminal, and to the oposite negitive terminal, then use the remaining + and - and hook it to the amp... thats how i have my JL 10W3 Dual 2 hooked and its better than just one side by far

I got the 4gauge in and it still goes into protection and then comes back online every 10 mins.

the amp is a mono 1 channel. Audiobahn a8000T

400x1 4 ohm
800x1 2 ohm

I think what I"m goin to do now is just wire it in a series to read 4ohms and run it that way and see if it helps keep the amp cooler.

if not, I gotta figure out some sort of setup to run extra fans on it.

running it at 4 ohms will keep it much cooler...
