That puff at startup
When I start my car for the first time of the day, I get a fairly embarrassing puff of smoke. I'm fairly certian its a oil puff. Once I get going for the day it dosent happen again.
I'm guessing its valve seals, but would like any input. And let me know how awful they are to repair, I'm assuming it can only be done with a head removal....

yeah i am having the same problem with my car.
i had the same problem on my old one, but it is the same problem with my new car.

Same here on that one.
For me, I'm getting a Japanese engine with like 33k on it. Screw messing with the old engine. Mine has almost 250,000 miles on it. It has served its time.
That is my suggestion.

Valve seals can be done on the car. But I have heard many people on here say changing them does nothing and that the valve guides are always the things to blame. You can hold the valves up with an air compressor attached through the spark plug hole.

I have the same thing.
Check your ECU for errors and then check all your idle control devices to make sure they are working .
Once you know your engine is 100% tuned and it still puffs .....valve guides.
You will need to remove the head and take it to a machine shop!
My engine has been puffing since 212 000 and its now at 330 000....no problems!

lol! Over 100,000 miles of puffing.
I can do that.
I've already done it for 20,000.

That would help if I hadnt ditched my ECU and all acosiated stuff with the original carb oh, 20,000 miles ago. :)
