I just bought a dual tip performance muffler off ebay and wanted to have it welded on tommorow. What is a reasonable price to pay to have a muffler welded on by a shop? It will need an adapter since the inlet is larger than the stock pipe. I'm not going for cat back so the price will just be to have the new muffler put on. Thanx for the replies and I'll post a sound clip after it is installed.

You could have it welded on or get it clamped on... that's what I did with mine after I cut off the stock muffler. and it was cheap since I did it myself. Only a few bucks for an adaptor and two u-clamps from Checker's Auto.
If you go clamped find a space of time when you have lots of time ad some JB weld under the adapter and at the end and give it at least 8-10 hrs to dry you could also probably use JB quick it wold take less time to dry

I'm curious as to why you said to use JB weld? I didn't use it on mine and it sounds good, no exhaust leakage from the adaptor.Quote:

Just becuase JB weld is awesome and sometimes clamps can loosen as time and vibration go by
OK, sounds reasonable enough.... I would but I do a full check on my car each summer where I tighten things down and maintaince stuff so I think I'm good... maybe for the new muffler I'm looking at... cause this one I'm not liking the sound too much

mine was free, i just made an adapter and welded the hangers from my stock muffler to my new one and welded the pipes up and hung it, no leaks and doesnt sound like a weed-eater
If anything see if one of your friend who knows a guy that welds and see if you can get a deal, best way I'd say. Cause for me if I wanted anything welded, my auto shop teatcher in HS has a welder and I go there make an appointment(ya need to so he can plan ahead for the class and make room) then drive it in there and weld whatever I needed welded. Even if it isn't something on my car.
So check with your friends and see what you can get out of it. Think about ot pay $50 or free with a deal.
If I had to pay more then $20 to get a muffler welded on I would flip shit.
I had mine welded on with 2.5" piping from the cat back for $75.
