I'm Stuck Again - Timing Belt Installation

. . . okay . . . I'm lost again . . . I can't figure out what the proper order is for putting together the timing belt . . . I have the camshaft in the right position & the crank is at TDC for #1 . . . the timing belt is clipped to the cam pulley . . . I have all the parts (except for the seals for the tensioner bolts - who knows where they went . . . maybe I never had them . . . who knows) . . . anyway . . . what goes on first, second, & so forth . . . I tried to do this using the Haynes manual . . . I'm still lost . . . I know I'm close though . . .

. . . I have the following:

* lower timing belt cover & bolts
* timing belt
* crankshaft & camshaft at TDC for #1
* 2 bolts & washers & spring & belt tensioner
* timing belt cam & 2 washers for crankshaft
* crankshaft pulley, bolt, washer & key

1. Assemble the cam pully (done)
2. Assemble the crank Pully
3. assemble the belt tensioner and make sure the pin is in place (if it has a pin, if not hold it back while installing the belt)
4. Line up the belt and install it.
5. pull the pin out of the tensioner
6. Double check everything
7. Install cover with gasket
8. Sit back and enjoy a beer and a joint.:D

. . . okay . . . I did it . . . honestly, it took me about 15 times to do it . . . I'm not kidding . . . I hope all that taking it off and putting it back on again & again didn't damage the belt . . . oh well . . . it's on there . . . so is my distributor . . . I doused oil onto my cams before I fitted the valve cover . . . I found this mirror to be extremely helpful (photo below) . . . mostly because I'm doing this while the engine is in the car . . . and I can promise you . . . this will be the last time I EVER do this while the engine is in the car . . .

. . . I hope this thing runs . . . I'm guessing on a lot of this stuff . . . running out of time . . . hoping I can finish in the morning - by 10:00 a.m. or so . . . we'll see . . .

. . . I stopped at 3:15 this morning . . . so . . . that means I got almost 3 hours of sleep . . .

. . . more bad news . . . I pulled off two "nipples" from the carburetor as I was attempting to remove hoses attached to them . . . this is obviously, bad news . . . what do you do with a carb nipple . . . just get some chewing gum and stick it back on?

. . . I'm leaving for work today & I'll be taking my wife's car . . . it's messed up and stalls out when you come to a stop . . . that's always fun . . .

. . . my ex-Honda mechanic friend was right . . . "Don't waste your time and money on that thing" . . .

You could use some fast dry epoxy stick to get you along until you can get a replacement carb. Dude, I feel your pain, it gets so frustrating digging into an engine, especially one that you're dealing w/ for the first time. All the problems and headaches make you wanna pull you hair out. Just think how easy things will be if you ever have to work on the engine again. I'm sure you gained a lot of experience out of it so cheer up.....it can't get much worse. Well, I guess It could not start...but...Nevermind, forget about that. Think positive thoughts....postitive :D
