has anyone noticed an acceleration difference between D4 and D3... because i was in D3 today and it seemed to accelerate pretty nicely...i normally dont drive in D3, so it was wierd to be in it and accelerating well... but maybe its just one of those good days for my car.
what about gas consumtion? is there a difference?
i dont kno shit bout autos, but i believe d3 is a lower gear than d4, so it would explain the
i usually shift into D4 on the fly when i catch myself in D3, but D3 keeps reving in 3rd after you max. D4 keeps shifting around... D4 eats gas if you keep droppin gears and making it rev higher
shit, i hit enter, ne way, that would explain the quiker acceleration, and if i am rite then u would get worse gass milage cuz its revving high to get to the same speed as d4.
i dont care about gas most of the time, i drive alot but i have money usually... and there is always "gas money friday" for the carpool to school

they are 2 of the thingies for autos
D3 is third gear.. your car will rev faster cuz the gear ratio is lower... it will eat more gas, but if you keep it under 3000 when cruising and just go above 3000 everyone and a while for a little burst, it wont be tooo bad...
anytime your goin over 50, shift to D4

Yeah. Anytime I need quicker acceleration or need to pass someone because they are being stupid, I shift it down to D3 so that it gets in high revs, and I am able to pick up better. It get's off the line quicker as well in D3 because you only have 3 gears to work with, so the ratio differ, using up more gas, and producing more of a jolt off the line and through 3rd. You should shift into D4 only if you're at about 4500rpm in D3. For normal driving, I keep in D4 for less gas consumption.

Not really. We have control of when we shift, on every gear accept 1st man. Haha. But you are right, no where near as fun as a manual transmission
hmm.. its not overdrive.. its like under drive... actually, D3 is just DRIVE.. D4 is overdrive.. over drive has less exceleration cuz the final gear ratiop is super high... this makes the car spin LOW rpms on the highway, have almost NO acceleration and consume very littel gas...
if you stomp on the gas, it will automatically detent or downshift into 3rd or even 2nd depending on how fast you are going

Well, you also have the torque Lock converter in d4.... it'll lower your rpms but you can't really accelerate with it engaged, thus it feels like it downshifts alot when you need to speed upQuote:

D4 is overdrive, automatics have 3 foreward gears plus a overdrive (economy) gear.Quote:
