stock spring diameter
I got some new rear springs, but my mechanic said they are too skinny. Unfortunately, he didn't measure the old ones before he put them back in. The new ones are from autosense (canadian I think) and the outside edge of the spring does not fit snugly in the mounts (kyb gr-2 struts).
If anyone has a stock rear spring lying around, could you measure the inside and outside diameter? I have to see if they boxed wrong.
Thanks to anyone who can.

I don't have the stock ones, but I have the right H&Rs for our cars. The rear spring outside diameter is: 106mm (-+ 1mm), and the inside is 96mm (+- 1mm). Hope this helps.
Looks to be exactly the size listed below.
-
On the stock ones, the inner diameter is 3 3/4" and outer is 4 1/4"
-
No sh!t !!!
The ones they sent me are 3 10/16 inside and 4 1/16 outside diameter. Now I have to wait two weeks to get new ones and I use the car for delivery 6 days a week! arrrrg :burn:

This is so retarded, I ordered a different set of springs from another manufacturer and they are the same. 4 inch outer diameter. I guess it's either direct from Honda or the bone yard.
-
what about the front?
sooo, before the mechanic rejects my stuff again, does anyone have the correct outer diameter for the front springs? I'm measuring 3.5 inches. Can anyone back me up?
-
Hmm well i got a set of 4 stock springs and they have a 3.5" diamter... they were so long it was almost impossible to installed them. I managed to get them on my car became an off road vehicle... maybe it was because of my weight reduction but my camber was horrible... my wheels tapered in at the bottom \ . / baaad!
-
yeah, my new springs look enormously tall. it's gonna suck cuz right now the car look lowered a wee bit. but at least I will be in control. thanks for the specs guys.

Soooo....
My front springs were BROKEN. Now I have new fronts and they look rediculous. I have as much clearance as my sister's 93 nissan pickup. but I still can't find the correct rear stock springs !!!! Now the shop I was dealing with says there are AT LEAST 4 different rear spring types.
I hope that this isn't going to be a problem when buying lowering springs.

this can't be right
Here's a pic of my front springs installed. This can't be factory height, it's hideous.
-
Oh my sweet Lord in heaven. That IS truck-like! That 3G is begging to be let down on the ground by the power of GroundControl/DropZone. Something to consider, eh?
-
That one's gonna be my winter car. I'm ordering some ground controls for my other car. But someone scooped the koni reds that were for sale, now I need the revalved bils.

How long ago did they do the spring install up front? Every spring install I've seen, be-it stock replacement, or lowered-aftermarket has settled a little in time. Those will settle a little.
Also, by the looks of it, the back springs are shot too. Maybe even cracked like the front was. Once you get the new springs in back too, the weight transfer alone from a stock height spring as opposed to a shot spring will lower the front a little more.
As for the outer diameter, that's not that much of a big deal. The inner diameter is the bigger deal. In either case though, the strut mount up top is rubber, and will be able to accept a slight variation in diameters, and still fit right. As for the perch on the strut itself, that too should be able to accept a slight variation in spring diameters b/c of the rubber half-ring that you take off the original spring and put on the replacement.
Hope some of this helps.
PS> Best way to settle a new set of springs is to drive on them. After they are installed, drive on a bumpy road. Don't drive too fast, or do high G turns, but do make sure you transfer good corner weight to all four corners. After a day or two of this (a week at most) you should be at settled height.
-
Um... there is no way those front springs will settle to normal height. I didn't even see any difference in height after driving on with new suspension for 3 weeks. Those front springs have gotta go man!
-
well thats the right height in the front for a stock suspension.
Here is yours.

They told me it would settle, but that was over 2 weeks ago. The shop that installed them turned away my rear springs. Said they were incorrect (eventhough it was the third set I ordered for an 89 accord) and said that the rear ones I had in were fine. This is also the shop that assembled the upper mount bushings incorrectly so that the strut shoved through.
