rotor screws won't come out

rotor screws won't come out

I really need to replace my rotors, I have the new ones but for the life of me I can not get the two philip head screws out that hold the rotor on, I would like to save the bolts any suggestions¿

I'm not positive, but I don't think I needed to take those out when I took mine off.

I used an impact driver to get mine out.

I sprayed the screw heads with PB blaster, set the impact diver on it and smnacked it with a hammer, off it went. If you cant get it off that way or dont have an impact drill the head off it. You dont need them to hold the rotor on. Once the pads are in place and the wheels on it stays right where it needs to be. If your that worried about it pick up a few from Honda. They are only a buck or 2 for both of them

We had the same problem on my friend's del sol rotors and the impact screwdriver and a visegrips on the screwdriver worked. He bought some Wagner rotors and they didn't even have the hole for the screws, he also said on his civic hatch he bought brembos that didn't even have the holes for the screws either.

I used a screwdriver bit and a ratchet. You just have to push really hard so it doesn't slip.

Hmm, I wonder if mine were just snapped in the middle, cause I'm looking at pics I took after I got it apart and mine are still in there.

I'm fairly sure that these don't hold the rotors on. The holes are there so you can thread a bolt into the hole and push rusted rotors off.

You're wrong. The 2 holes that don't have the screw is for threading in a bolt to push off rusted one.

Maybe this is different for different years? If I take off my wheels and calipers the rotors slide right off. I went and looked and the screws don't go all the way through the rotors. There's also nothing for them to screw into even if they did. :dunno:

There are 4 holes in the rotor, right? Two are beveled for the screw to sit in and 2 are just regular holes? Maybe your screws got replaced with the wrong ones or something but mine definitely hold the rotor on.

the hub has two hoes where those phillips head screws hold the rotor to the hub. THe other two holes in the rotors fit 12 or 10mm bolts to free em up.

Well I went to Sears about a impact socket but they did not have one so I bought a philips screw that is attached to a socket, so hopefully I can just use that and get the screws out.

like steve mentioned, make sure u put enough force on the head of the ratchet to push the bit firmly on the screw to help it not slip, if it slippes and the screw gets rounded off, then ur screwed. So make sure u do that, the screw is not torqued like hell, so it should come off easy with no problem, and when putting back, get some antisieze on it and screw it back in. Also make sure the guide pins on the caliper is lubed good. Lot of poeple forget that.

note: the usual screw driver bits are 1/4 " so get a socket that is a 1/4 and stick the bit in. good luck ;)

The rotor beveled holes needs to line up with the threaded holes. You just put the rotor on wrong. Thats if your wanting to use the screws. Its not a big deal really.
