help me choose tires

allright, I need new tires on my v6. I hit a pothole and a bubble has formed so I am replacing them all. My options are falken ziex 512 (H-rated), Toyo proxies tpt (v-rated, Bridgestone Turanza's Ls-v's (v rated), and Pirelli P6 (v-rated) There are some michelins available but I hear crappy reviews. the tire size is 205-60-16. suggestiong are helpful especially about speed rating which is half the reason I am debating this with myself, Like "do I really need a v rating?" thanks guys.Or if anyone has some 17's for sale for that would fit a 2000 v6 accord lemme know (cuz then I have better tire options!)

you don't need V rated just to let you know. If you never go around 120mph alot, I think H rated is fine.

Ive used Falken Ziex 512 and I love them for their bang for buck. They are definitely cheaper of the performance all season tires. The only thing I think that they have a problem with is road noise.

yeah, I have them on the rims of the 3g I never noticed a road noise issue (then agian that car was loud.) But here is another question, On discounttire.com it has 205-60-16 and 215-55-16 on the plus category for my car.. So would a 215-55-16 tire work? Oh and has anyone used those 512's in snow? since it says all season tire.

i like the kumho 716 tires my mom's car has... they are several years old, have over 50,000 miles on them, and still have about 30% tread... too bad our sand eats tires... things are startng to dry out... they may not be available in your size, but they are a good bargain with decent performance (for a medium performance touring tire)

if you go to the barns and noble (if you have one near you) there is a tire test in the Consumer Report magazines. All I remember is the Falken was on the top of the list for top all season performance tires. As far as it performing in the snow, I believe it should be decent enough for an all season tire.

215/55/16 will fit on a 6.5 inch rim.

I looked up your car, and there are two versions of your rims. 16x6 and 16x6.5. On the rim somewhere it should say 15x6.5JJ or 15x6JJ on there. 215 would improve your performance but if you are saying your are already hitting potholes with the 60 series tires, the 55 tires would be worse for potholes.

I stand by Falkens Ziex 512 versus Kumho Escta 712 or 711 in terms of performance.

looks like I am probably going with the H-rated ziex 512. the speedo only goes to 150... if I try it the tires should hold lol. And that pothole... it was a bitch that was the first time I ever hit it, I was looking at the radio and hit it going like 40 it wasn't like a rumble it was a thud. And yeah, I could buy them for like 80 some bucks a tire from discount tire and pay over $400 for the set, or buy them from Vulcan (like I did last time) and save a ton of money. Only reason to buy from Discounttire is for there replacement plan.

the Falkens are like a 30k mile tire lol But since I drive like a grandma till I hit the freeway they might last longer.

i've been running v-rated toyo's for a while now and i don't have a single complaint. excellent road response and the tire wear has been average. so i would definately recommend the proxes.

anybody see the new bfgoodrich g-force sports? they go around $75 a tire and 16" and up are zr rated.

Ok, I ordered a set of falkens from edgeracing.com they're a couple bucks cheaper than vulcantire.com and shipping was less. 242 bucks I think when vulcan was like $250.... I thought about spending the $250 because it was exactly $250 (for the sake of being even lol)

yeah... decided to not stray from what I bought before. plus for less than 300 bucks I couldn't go wrong.

If you bought those online, what happens if you get a blow out at lets say 2k miles?

still cheaper to buy new tire. Plus, I am looking at buying an upgraded wheel (atleast 16x6.5 so I can fit a 215-55-16 tire on)

The speed rating is not for top speed only. Alot of Volvos have H and V rated tires and you think they hit 150+?

Tire speed ratings are based on alot of things, primarily compound and sidewall stiffness. H-rated tires are going to be good performers for you.

Realistically if you want a good performing tire that isn't very expensive I would reccomend doing a plus 0 and going to a 215/55R16. Get the BFG Traction T/A in the H-Rated. They are top notch and I love them. I sell tires and service work for a living (http://cjtire.com - shameless plug).
