so I'm looking to buy a hi-flow cat for the rex, the only thing is that all the stuff I'm looking at are all "offroad and race only" and 'not smog friendly'... So I am curious, do they pass emissions or no? I know I need something, or the b16 stands no chance at passing.
So, for all of you guys running hi-flow cats, did it pass for you? Especially you Californians, if they can pass smog out there, I know i can get away with it here.
i've got a catco honda/acura cat and it is c.a.r.b. compliant.
it's probably not as good as brand-new oem for emissions, but it is an improvement in flow.
i can pass smog in cali, but most of the stuff on my engine is new or freshly rebuilt.
There is also magnaflow catalytic convertors. I have a California Legal that is 50state legal.
are these bolt or weld ons?
the catco was bolt on but it had hanging rods welded to it that i had to cut off to make it fit. plus i had to buy bolts since the stock cat's are pressed in.
You guys got any part numbers, prices, links? Thanks.
Oh, what size inlet/outlet are these available in?
i believe the one i got was CTO-4172 and it was about $90 from summit.
same inlet and outlet as stock.
anyone with 2.25inch piping have any input?
I've got a new Catco 2.25" in/out high-flow cat I have no use for. Got it from summitracing, model 6905R. I can let it go for $45 shipped.
IF youre willing to make the drive to Springfield, or souther missouri. They only have Inspection there, where they check for exhaust leaks, and just to see if you have a cat/muffler, etc.
They wont actually test your car, it may be worth the trip if youre that desperate lol.

i have 2.25 piping with 2.25 (i think, but it might be 2.5") cat...
my motor is a bit tired, but i failed the living shit out of emissions, i ONLY passed the gas cap test...
seriously i had like 10x to much shit coming out of my exhaust as allowed...
however, i have a feeling this has more to do with the condition of my rings/valve guides, and the car tossing back a bit of smoke, than it would be the "still legal" high flow cat... :)
i got a Catco cat that was a weld in for about $60 couple of years back when i got my exhaust done. It was easier for the exhaust shop guys cause they did not have to worry about putty a flange on the pipe to bolt up to the rear of the cat. They welded one side and put a flange on the other to get the downpipe to bolt up. I passed emissions (NJ emissions) very good and beat the NOx emissions by a lot. It was good to see the highflow cat actually working. I give my vote for Catco and its a 2.25" inlet and outlet, non directional and mated to a 2.25" piping with resonator.
i saw the ad for catco and it said for off road and racing vechicles only :dunno: why would you put a converter on an off road or racing vechicle? it's an emisions component why would it not be legal on an emisions vechicle?
maybe it hasnt been tested and actually proven...so they are just trying to cover their asses..Quote:
