should i trade?
alright so heres the deal, as some of you may have read i bought some 17's that i thought were good deal, 500 bucks for rims and tires, just to find out, rubbers bald so know i gotta save up another 600-700 bucks to buy tires, or....
one of my buddys gf has some 15'' rota slipstream lookalikes with new rubber, about 1000km on them but she wants bigger, so my friend thought mabye she might wanna trade straigh up her wheels with new rubber for my wheels, i can do this soon and have some rims to finish out the summer with or just continue saving and wait till next summer to buy rubber, opinions?, here are the rims
my rims=

and everybody knows what the slipstreams looklike=

i would personally. but these aren't rota lookalikes, because rota slipstreams are lookalikes.
-
If they're really slipstreams and not some no name knock-off of a good knock-off then I would definitely go for it.
-
im pretty sure there not real slipstreams, but to be honest, that doesnt really matter to me if there knock off knock offs, well i shouldnt lie i gues that does play in a little bit, iv just been saving for awhile and then bought these and i just want to put somthin on the car, i love to look of the 17's stuffed inside but the rotas ( or whatever you wanna call them ) and a bronzy colour and my car is the baige colour so it should contrast better then the black with polished lip, but i like the polished lip, ahaha its a big run around and im not sure what to do, anybody else got an opinion?
-
600-700 bucks for tires? what are you buying? 20's? Get a set of kuhmo's. shouldnt cost you more then 450 for a set mounted and balanced.
I'd go with the slips or whatever they turn out to be. they look hella hot on a 3g IMO.
-
i think the slips look hot on a 3g also..if they fake oh well no one gotta know, but the slips get my vote...
-
well up here in canada my buddy bought 17 inch toyos which cost him 650, so im thinking if i need to buy new rubber, thats what it will cost, i think im gonna go with the slipstreams but more opinions wont hurt, you guys think the 15's will look better then the 17s, o and i forgot to mention before the cars droped 1.75"
-
it's about 110$ per proxes t1, just so you know (i mean, what we get them for cost at the shop) ... that would make sense after markup and mount/balance to end up around 600 or more.
i like those 17s, personally, because they're not typical, and the polished lip actually help makes the rim look smaller. that's good because our cars tend not to look so good with huge rims -- in my opinion.
slips are standard, for sure... can't go wrong with them. it's down to your budget, i'd say
-
personally, i'd rather have the slipstreems. if the tires are in good condition on em, i'd say yeah, trade em. man, $700+ for tires! shit, i can probley get a set of 4 17in tires for a lot cheaper. and nice ones at that. maybe around $520 or so.

yea were getting raped up here on tires it looks like, not to mention gas prices that just hit 122.9 cents/liter, but thats a different thread,
i did a quick search here on 3geez looking for any info on speedo correction for aftermarket rims, didnt find what i was looking for, does anybody know how far off the speedometers will be per rim size, like is it 10 clicks for every inch you go up or what?
just wondering thanx
-
as far as the speedometer goes, so long as you keep the factory tire/rim diameter you're fine. there's a sticky at the top of this section with information regarding this... i think there's only 1 or 2 sizes of 17s that work properly with this car
-
i would trade the tires if i was you. I would never put anything bigger than 15" on my car. Bigger rim, less performance and more stress on braking system and engine.
-
well turns out that my buddys gf has changed her mind and doesnt wanna go bigger anymore, she didnt even look at the rims, ahah anyways looks like the wheels are gonna remian stock till spring thanx for all the advice guys
-
IMO, i observed very little change in the speedometer reading when i had some 17's on my 3gee. going from 13's to 17's was really no change in the speedometer. anyway, only thing i didnt like was a hard ride and the car was slower and got worse gas mileage.
-
The size of the wheel doesn't matterl, only the overall circumference of the wheel/tire combo. That means if you go with a bigger wheel, you just need to choose the right size tire so the speedo stays the same.
