Who's relocated their battery?
I'm thinking about relocating my battery. For those who've done this, where/how did you route your cables: underneath, through the firewall, etc? I've seen the kit from Summit Racing.http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...0&autoview=sku Any other suggestions?
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
if you plan on racing at any 'real' events, the track i go to requires your battery to be in a sealed vented box (even if its an optima) and also requires an external kill switch. :(
i bought the taylor kit thru summit, and its a decent kit, but the freakin box is HUGE.... anyway i havent done this 'yet' but i probably will by the time i go turbo, so ill let ya know. im just hesitant to have external battery kill on my accord if i can avoid it...
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
I put one in the trunk
I drilled a hole at the bottom of the pax floorboard and passed it under the carpet by the pax doors, then under the back seat and the trim.
A batt box is a nice touch
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
i used the kit from summit until the box broke in my accident several years ago. The battery leaked (after i took away the box) and now the trunk is messed up a bit. I drilled a hole in the firewall, and connected it to the started, where the battery is normally connected. i ran the cable under the carpet on the pass side, then under the rear seats. Installing a kill switch for track reasons would mean that you have to do more than disconnect the wire going to the starter, since the alternator is still in the loop.
If you're going to be racing at a track, not only do you have to have it in a sealed, vented box, and an external kill switch, you also can't use J-hooks. you need to have it welded in place i believe.
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
yeah you should have it welded i think too. I leave my battery in my clusterfuck of an engine bay, i really need that weight over my drive wheels instead of in my trunk where it does nothing
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
my engine bay was too clusterfucked to fit a battery, I had to put it in the hatch. So now my car is illegal for the street And the track. perfect..
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
I bought a box from checker auto parts but had the battery in the passenger foot well instead of in the trunk. It wasn't legal for state regulations... I dunno about racing either. now it's hanging from the DOG BONE engine brace. :)

the red circles are the weld points.
BTW: Each Square rod is 3/4" in size.

Re: Who's relocated their battery?
Thx for the replies. I can see the turbo guys wanting to load their front end for straight-line traction, but I'm all NA and am more interested in handling benefits by transfering some weight to the rear. Did you guys actually FEEL the difference in handling after moving the battery?
Looks like I'll be handing some money over to Summit soon.:)
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
i got the battery in my trunk for the past two years. Ill post the pictures up once i get home. I got the summit kit also and its perfect. U will have some positive cable left over. but ill let u see my setup once i get home.
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
Tell me about any handling differences you noticed.... thx. A guy I work with used to own his own alignment/frame/suspension business and said batt relocation was one of the best cost/benefit improvements you could make, especially on front-weight-biased cars.

Not only that, but you could even it out and put one on each side of the vehicle.
aaaamazing.
Except for the fact that the car now weighs 40 lb more.
I noticed a slight decrease in understeer. Since I had no objective way to measure, there's no way to know if it wasn't just all in my head. Every 22 lb of battery moved to the trunk is a 1% shift in front/rear weight distribution.
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
virtually.................... there is no difference in handling. it just cleans up ur engine bay. But it also makes a difference how far the battery is from the rear axle, but on a daily driving, you dont see much of a change.
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
if ur concerned with a external kill switch i would have to say at least for the hatchbacks that the rear keyhold would make a good spot to put it being that no "big" mods will have to be done to the body and no more drilling either
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
Sorry for bringing up a thread from the dead, but does anyone have pictures of this done, I'm interested in moving by battery this weekend coming up.
I searched but couldnt find any pictures of it done.
Re: Who's relocated their battery?
maybe ill come out and do mine to i just have to find somewere to store my extra tranny lol maybe ill come out there pico and we can do a battery relocation day lol i already have the power wires ran i just have to get a ground installed

Re: Who's relocated their battery?
Legend_master did this....but he didnt really use a kit, he just drilled holes in his hatch floor and attached his optima battery...and seeing as he has no carpet lol...

Re: Who's relocated their battery?
i wouldnt even worry about the handling benefit unless you were going for a max effort auto-x car
