I just picked up my car and was wondering if it is normal for a carb 2.0 to be slow going up hills with the pedal to the floor. I checked the last emmissions test and it rates it at 12 hp. Is that normal? if not what could the problem be? It also tends to stall anytime i start off after stopping. Its an auto.
12hp, are you running on 1 cylinder? :)
1) Carburetors don't like steep hills.
2) Carburetors don't respond well to big changes in altitude.
1) If your TV Cable isn't set correctly you wont do well on hills unless you manuall change the gear to a lower gear.

Have you run a compression check?
that sounds really wierd. rated 12hp? how the hell do you get that number in the first place? my carbed engine does pretty well going up hill. of course its not real fast, but still fairly quick. maybe its a long shot, but check the vacuum hoses on the carb. there's a bunch of them and they make a big difference when they arent connected correctly.
I live on some very steep hills, and my old DX would accelerate (to an extent) up some hills... never any problems.
make sure fuel filter is not plugged or partially plugged .. the 1 by the tank mostly..
Ive tried everything i can think of trying to fix my idle but it still seems wrong. when idleing the RPMs run fine then drop low and back up to normal and back down and then up and so on. when ever i come to a stop the RPMs drop out and the engine stalls every time I get back on the gas. The car only has 50K on it but it has sat for at least 6 months.I have a new cap, plugs, wires, fuel filters. and i just cant get the car to stay running after stopping.
Not sure if it could be a bad selonoid but if that is the case then i have no idea how to check to see which one could be bad. other than that i have no idea how to cure the problem. once the car is up to speed it runs great.

If it runs fine when you press the gas, could be a sign of a vacuum leak... since vacuum isn't used nor is it very high once you raise the throttle enough.
Vacuum is important at idle.
The solenoid at the back of the carb is supposed to open when the ignition is tuned on, that way fuel is allowed to flow. It should activate when you apply a 12v soucre to it... it uses the carb as the ground (-) and has a single power (+) wire to the back of the solenoid.

Thanks for the help it actually turned out to be the PCV valve. the inside of the valve broke and there was nothing but a spring inside when i checked it. now the car runs perfect.
