86 accord start then died then wont start again

I have a 1986 accord dx hatchback, i just got a set of some 16 chrom and changed the alternator.......it worked fine for about a week. one morning i woke up and that sucker starts fine....after about 3 minutes the car just died off not working or something..... i try to start it again but it wont start...the night before that it worked fione sucker runs quick but why is it that the next morning i start it it runs for 3 minutes then when i tried to start it it wont start. now this isnt the first time this happens either, sometimes after i wait for about 45 to an hour the car would start fione and run again...as of right now the car is just sitting and posting....someone help!

well when i was driving my buddys 85 Hardbody, I went to start it, it started and got just to the point of idle and died,

Turned out to be the blasted cap and rotor. that truck would go through a caps and rotors every 5k miles.

thats my first guess for you! there cheap parts, maybe 20 bucks at most new? (for you 3g'ers, For my celica the cap and plug wires are one peice! $100!!!)

dang :|... im a totall newbie whats blasted cap and rotor those them things that hook up to the plugs? cuz after i changed my sparks it went good for a while but then the whole idle deal recalls again.......so cap and rotors? any picks?

your plug wires connect to the cap. Inside the cap, there is a rotor that spins around igniting each plug wire, which ignites the spark plug etc etc.

your cap and rotor should not be corroded, but should be nice'n shiny... like new basically.

if the cap and rotor dosnt do the trick check your ignitor
