engine swap q's (NOT what will swap in)
my questions are more on the practical side of things surrounding a swap, not what can be swapped in. so maybe someone could detail some of these questions about swaps. cost? gas mileage? smog (california answers would be ++good)? how it affects your insurance rates? and i'm looking for answers to said questions for the basically any non-stock usdm engine swapped into an accord.
Re: engine swap questions
so no one knows anything about those questions about swapping in any engine besides the a20a1/3?
Re: engine swap questions
If you look up cali smog laws it says something about legally swapping in an engine from a newer car,It says it's legal if the engine runs cleaner than the old one, and you have to transfer the whole harness and computer from one car to another, have all the smog equipment that came on the engine. Then you have to take it to be evaluated by the state. I'm not entirely sure I'll try to get you the link,I'll get back to you.
Re: engine swap questions
Well, for me, I got fucked by emissions. In PA, every emissions component that was put on the CA chassis needs to be on. B-series engines don't have EGR valves so my car won't pass emissions. I can go through some paper work bullshit or drive it less than 5K miles per year. I'm doing the latter. My insurance didn't change at all so that was no worry. Gas mileage is less (at least highway) because the gear ratios are so tight. I'm running 4K rpms at 60 mph in 5th gear. Sucks the gas up pretty quick. Cost was expensive. Make sure you really really want to do this to your car because it's a lot of money to shell out. And if you're hacking up your engine bay to get one in, it's most likely gonna be a bitch to get an A-series back in if you don't like it.
