Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
I haven't posted here in awhile, but i know theres some talk about a water injection system. A buddy of mine that owns a garage has ran a system simular to this for years in his Honda's. And I've been runnig it on my accord I know for at least two years. Do what you want with the info.:)

Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
so i dlike to know thw numbers were talking about here like actual percentage in fuel hp and engine life
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
a20a1 will be all over this. it wont work for the FI guys...
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
It would be nice if we could make it work for FI. Would hooking this up to the intake on FI cars do the same thing?
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
this will work for the FI dudes too... a throttle body is basically a carb... all you hafta do is tap into your air intake a couple inches before the throttle body. you can get a threaded tap at a hardware store for less than a dollar, they should be close to wherever you buy the hose from... jus use tha same setup they describe, except change that lil bit.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
so what changes did you see/feel?? smoother ride, more MPG, more HP, etc???

lol @ the "more mpg" comment
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
actually, you get all of the above.a lot of the fuel being injected is for cooling the cyl down so you don't predetonate. if you use water for this instead, you can back off the fuel and get better MPG. you get more power because the intake charge is cooler. your engine will last longer because you're keeping carbon deposits cleaned out. in a lot of cases your idle smoothes out.
the only reason it's not implemented is the fact that you should be using distilled water. most people don't want to be dumping distilled water into their car along with fuel. others don't understand injecting water into a fire.
it should also be noted that this is another thing the army was playing with to get longer range and more power out of their fighter planes. they were able to achieve around 40% increase in efficiency. you certainly can't beat that for what little water costs.

more miles per gallon foo!!!!! :D
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
My buddy that has the shop heard this from a old time racer. He said it help cool the fuel/air mixture. The way I got mine hook up is top vac. nipple on the throttle body. I don't have hp numbers, but if it helps with detonation it worth the the small change I spent.

Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
after reading through that page, this isn't a water injection systerm, per-say. it's a vapor injection system. same things going on, it's just that the water is in smaller droplets and isn't able to be controlled quite as well.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
Water injection in a pretty much stock car, especially like our 3gs is kinda useless IMO. THe difference you see will be minimal.
However In a turbocharged application I know some people running water injection and it makes a big difference
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
the difference you see could be several WHP and 2-3 MPG. more than worth it.
come on guys, research this stuff more before you bash it!
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
So all those little fittings in the picture are sold at a local auto parts store? I think I'll try this out on my 5G if I can find all the parts.

with a solution of four parts water to one part alcohol (the latter keeps the water from freezing in winter)
whats latter?
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
That would be alcohol, dude. Very standard English expression...

I just used a good jar than seals good, cut two holes in the top big enough for two gromets and some 1/4" clear hoses. Be sure the hose coming from the jar to the throttle body is not sticking in the water because you will suck prue water and that equals hydrolock. And yes do use alcohol.
Like I said before this came from a old time track racer that ran a Karmann Ghia VW which is a air cooled engine and known for heat they can produce.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
i'd only use alcohol in a cold climate. it's much easier to use pure water on a daily basis, as you can buy distilled water anywhere. having to mix every fillup can be a bitch and a half.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
Just use coolant.
Okay, I'm kidding! DON"T use coolant! One thing to add here, I probably wouldn't use water at all in the winter. The carburetor is likely to ice up very easily if you do. In the winter, I'd suggest using something like OTC 70% Ethanol from the pharmacy.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
I've been running mine for two years and its never froze up. Just add 1/2 water and 1/2 alcohol and you will have no problem.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
It's different for carbs, your EFI so you don't have a venturi causing changes in velocity/pressure/temperature.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
i don't know if i said this already, butim' going to do this with my truck. i can't really post up MPG results until i start work agian, but i can post up g-tech results.
Re: Do-It-Yourself Water Injection System
A real water injection system is just as complex as a fuel injection system. 1 injector in each intake runner controlled by a computer referenced to manifold press and rpm, with the same amount of tunability as a chipped ecu..
