since most 6.5 inch speakers cannot fit in my 87ex-i because the backing is to big... has anywon tried to "shave" or sand the original speaker fitment in the front doors to make it fit? ... the magnet part is like an inch too big for the slot i was just wondering if anywon has removed the stock holders for the speakers ... and if they did, does it interfere with your window now when u wind it down?
you dont need to cut the back out, just use different brackets to hold the speaker in the housing. Thats what I did and it works awesome. Theres enuff room in the cover for the speaker to extend out a little bit, Its better to go out then in so you don't hit the window
well other than the way he said all u have to is cut the baskit and make the mount a smooth ring the attach them if ur woried about clerence u can put 5 1/4's in the same mount thats what i have

u knwo before u buy some rings cut the back off the stock ones u might just clear without a prob

My advise: Polk Audio Db6500 component speakers. They fit, no mods required and sound superb. 100 watts rms, 300 peak. Stuff the crossover up into the front of the door, mount the tweeters in the sail panel or the defrost vent.
ya i have polk audio db 5 1/4's they sound awsome even on the stock prelude deck im using know but they had an awsome sound to them when i had them hooked up to my audiobahn a4004t

There's a ton of threads on cutting out the back of the plastic speaker bracket, but judging by the picture you posted, that's not gonna be enough in your case.

IMO best place to look is http://www.crutchfield.com They will show you exactly what fits with no mods required. You can buy the speakers from elsewhere and get better prices than crutchfield but their service is A+++.
I bought some Pioneer 6.5in speakers off them for my fronts and they fit perfect.
