Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
Well on Thursday night when i was driving back home from work, i noticed that when i would put the car into 4th gear the gear would pop back out into neutral:( 5th gear is starting to do the same thing now :( I only drove the car for a day after that which was Friday in the morning. I had to rent a car until i get a new tranny on the car. this sucks!!!! all the other gear work but its only 4th and 5th mostly 4th. Time for a new tranny. This is kinda of a set back from my swap because i didn't want to fix anything. Right now I'm looking into getting just a used one for the mean time go get me around until i get ready for the swap. But then again i drive allot for my job so i dint want it fucking up again so a rebuilt one is somewhat an option.

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
To bad your in Cali, There is a shop here in Columbus called Phase II repair shop the only does old school hondas. I got a rebuilt tranny, clutch, front upper and lower ball joints, all Honda OEM parts for $1700. Do you want the phone number? They could problaby hook you up with a tranny + ship on the cheap....

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
have you checked the oil level in tranny?
may be it is low.

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
I have a freshly rebuilt 89 accord manual transmission laying in my garage. The manual transmission in mine has about 200k on it. Purchase a transmission with 100k on it from a local salvage yard for $150 and took it to "The Transmission Specialists" in Stillwater and had them change all the bearings, bushings, and syncros. Cost me a pretty penny. Make me an offer and I may take it!

WTF?!?!?! They're on somethin good, obviously...
maybe they meant with a new engine too... lol
there are plenty of good working trannies in the junkyard, and they usually run about $100-$150. Just take the back plate off to check the 5th gear. Only takes like 5 minutes, and it'll give you an idea of what the rest of the tranny looks like.

That whas what I was about to say also. The same thing happened in my 5th gear a while back when I went up really steep roads. I would check that before you go spend money on a new transmission or rebuild. Its worth a shot. Jiffy lube only charge like $40 to top it off.

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
^^^i would not even take my car to jiffy lube if i had 1 quart of oil...didnt you see the video that Jim posted?
-
Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
messys right jiffy lube fucks up your car... go to a salvage yard.. buy a new used one.. easy cheap and will last a while if you dont beat the ever loving piss out of it.. =D

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
One more thing. Have you hit anything? I have a 98 civic and hit some animal. From then on the transmisison would kick out of 2nd gear if I got on it. I climbed under there and bent my shift linkage and everything is great. Just check it before you go transmission swappin

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
Hey cheese... pick a part has 50% off all weekend long... You could get a spare for like 100 bucks no problem, and it's always good to have a spare if nothing serious is wrong.. I think ecology is the same too but not 100% sure on that.

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
He probably doesn't need a new transmission. Thats what I'm saying. He probably just needs to add some fluid to his transmission. Thats worth trying first before you buy another transmission.

Re: Sweet mother of CHEESE!!!!
ill try that out tomorrow morning bro thanks

axles have nothing to do with the car popping out of gear.
I say, check your shift linkage, check your clutch cable (make sure its adjusted properly), check the fluid, and make sure the gear is engaging ALL the way, and the clutch is engaging/disengaging ALL the way.
My 1st gear pops out alot if i dont have the clutch pedal all the way out and my foot off of it.
