Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
i'd like to have some recommendations of valve springs for the A20 that can be used for higher rpms than stock. i just cant remember which ones were offered and the search didnt help with anything. i plan to use a 272 delta cam if that helps. mainly trying to overcome valve float and have something of high quality. i have heard of using 2nd gen prelude valve springs, but would perfer something a little better that is specific to fit the A20.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
i know paeco make some stuff for our cars...but they charge you alot
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
a little more specifc to a20 would be the carbed a18 valve springs...im pretty sure work
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
yeah, the carbed a18 springs are the ones. and i've heard "a18" and "double springs" in the same sentence before, so you might want to check on that too.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
yeah, those were the ones i've heard of. the prelude A18 i guess? but, something aftermarket would be better if i can get ahold of something i dont have to modify to fit.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
well here are the basic performance head mods
1.port and polish
2. relieving
3. 3 angle valve seat
4. glasspeening
5. springs shimmed
6. milling
but springs are kinda cheap....i just saw them...4 bucks for intake and 8 bucks for exhuast...from paeco

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
i just went to paeco's website, and i dont really get what their getting at. is everything under the valve section custom made for any car?

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
the lude has dual valve springs and better retainers
i am planing on going with those and im gonna be reving 7-7.5k with supporting mods
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
The A18 intake springs will fit the A20 directly and are stronger than the A20 intake springs. The A18 exhaust springs are doubles and I think will also fit the A20 without modification. The retainers and platforms go with the springs though so you need those as well.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?

not if you want to keep stock intake or aftermarket intake.
A18 head has diff bolt pattern for intake manifold.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
you will raise the compression if you put on an A18 head and you will no longer have teh 2.0L of fury
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
^ i was wondering that as well. does the A20 header fit the A18? if so, maybe something to look into.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
so are you saying the header will bolt up? i know the intake from the A20 wont, duh!
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
oh, header, idk. test it out in the jy.
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
A18 and A20. The intake ports are different. The exhaust ports are the same. So A18 and A20 exhaust manifolds are interchangeable. Watch it with the downpipes though. Some are single pipe outlet and some are double.
When I rebuilt the A18 in my Prelude I bored it out to 2.0L specs and used an A20 head with the intake valve springs from the A18. No alterations needed.

Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
so exactly how much stronger are the intake/exhaust springs on the A18 head? id like to rev up to 7500 if possible, but im not sure if springs themselves would be able to do it
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
j/w would u have to obd1 to make it rev to 7500?
is their a way to zap it?

not really, but you have to remove the rev limiter on our ECUs, so probably the only way is to go OBD1 or stand alone. im planning on going megasquirt soon, so i wont be worrying about how i rev or anything. the only thing im worried about is how far those springs will get me cause i want to extract the most power per gear, and an extra 1000rpm over whats basically stock goes a long way in the track since im shifting at a higher road speed, and every time i shift, im higher up the power band
-
Re: Valve Springs, aftermarket:which ones?
can u get a diff rev limiter for the a20's cuz i dont wanna miss a gear one day then over rev it u know!
