big problems
Hi,
I just rebuild engine and swap A/T to M/T. I have A LOT of problems!
First of all, if you ever do this swap, you should change the fuel tank too.
My first problem is that after 300 km, the oil level is below minimum level. The engine burn a lot of oil. I let the engine to idle for 5 minutes and when i push the throttle, a lot of white smoke will appear. And this is happening even if the engine is cold or hot.
Also, the idle is very bad. It bounce between 900 and 1500 rpm and it won't drop after engine is hot. It's like I hit the accelerator pedal over and over.
Also, when I build the engine I broke the PCV valve and replaced it with some unisens valve I found here, because no car parts dealer have a OEM PCV valve.
any sugestions?
thanks

Re: big problems
The PCV valve is probably a large part of your idle problem. AS for the burning oil, that is most likely from rebuilding the motor improperly.

Re: big problems
actually idle part is caused by fast idle valve. when there aren't enough coolant or there is a huge air buble, the fast idle valve never kicks out.
plus overtime the springs inside get weak. you can adjust it by turning clockwise untill rpm go down. do it on hot engine.
white smoke is due to coolant burning, smell the smoke. if it smells very sweet it is your coolant. did you torque the head gasket in 2 steps?
drive it for a while and see if the smoking stops.

Re: big problems
I agree with the fast idle valve being a probable cause for your bouncing idle. Thats an easy fix that made a world of difference for my car!
Good luck!

Re: big problems
I'm sure the smoke is from burned oil. I ask a mechanic and this could be from improper piston ring montage or from valves o-rings. Hope to be the valve o-rings.
As for the PCV valve, I can buy it in US but nobody want to ship it to Romania. Here I can't found it:wtf:

Re: big problems
did you replace the valve guides? if not, after putting the valves back they sometimes will not fit correctly and cause that. good thing you only have 12 valves. can you list the things you did when doing the rebuild? that might help us to find your cause of problems.
