Climate Air Controls Conversion!
Ok this may not be all that difficult for those of you who already have push button controls.
I'm still working things out with OD, and I will have more details once I have removed the dash from the F1 (which has standard push buttons)
Here we have the plugs for the standard controls, completely unused in my car

Here we have the wires for the climate controls. To my suprise, completely seperate from the main loom.

Here we can see the standard loom comes in across the top, the climate controls loom comes in slightly lower down.
They connect to each other using three plugs.
I always wondered why there were so many spare plugs around the blower unit. Now I know, they are for the standard blower unit. The climate control version must be slightly different.

Here we can see the motor unit that control the temperature, selected on the dial on the climate controls. This does the job of the temp slider on the stanard push button controls

I'll be looking in to the motor that aims the air out of whichever vent you select. Seems to be a difference between the push button and climate control versions. I'll know more when I have the F1 dash off.

After seeing OD's setup, it seems that the 87-89 models have the wiring for climate controls integrated in to the dash loom. 85/86 models like mine have the wiring slapped on to the standard loom as an after-thought.
So at this stage it looks like the folloing parts would be required to convert push button controls to climate controls (without altering existing wiring).
1)Climate control unit
2)Blower unit
3)Motor that controls heater temperature
4)Wiring from 85/86 JDM 3G with climate control
Unconfirmed but possibly necessary parts
1)Motor that changes which vents the air comes out of.
2)Fan/temp sensor in centre console, will check if it works without it.
Optional Parts
1)Outside temp sensor in front bumper
2)Temp sensor (or something) in air box beside blower unit
3)Light sensor on top of instrument panel

Hmmm, I have most of these parts already here.
I'll take a picture of everything I have and we'll be able to compare what's needed to make it work right. That's just awesome! I really want to make those work soon. I'm missing the inside temp sensor tough :(

"Another unknown sensor" that is just a relay. It clicks when the fans turn on full, and possibly LO and medium.
"A connector with 1 wire on one side and 5 on the other" That is just where the wiring loom for the climate controls gets it's power from. The other wires should match a plug you already have, and that wire in particular should provide 12 volts to the climate controls and turn them on.
"The control brain" Not sure what that does, everything seems to work without it lol. Might be air con related, as mine doesn't work
"I guess this one replaces the resistor in the blower motor" This is the unit that caused my fans to never work on LO or medium. Yes it goes in the blower, meaning you probably don't need a blower from a climate control car.

"Rec Motor" recirculation motor, attaches to the blower unit
"Temp Motor" this replaces the manual heater leaver. You can see it towards the right on picture 4.
Other one must be vent selection control.
The red plug cable goes off towards the engine bay. The pink and blue wires are +5v each, for the sensors. It will work without this, but when it is unplugged the heater motor will move a little.

None of the loom would go near the passenger area on a LHD car. As far as I can tell, you just need to wire those big plugs back up and stick them in the back of the climate controls unit. Hopefully the other plugs match up with plugs in the area around the blower unit. If it doesn't reach that far, then chances are it's from a 87-89 3G and you'll have to extend the cables.
The only wires that don't go to the left side of the car are for the temp motor, vent motor, internal temp sensor and light sensor. You can see some in pic # 2, heading diagonally up and right to the vent motor and up then left then slightly up to the temp motor.

The unit may use a light sensor to adjust LCD display brightness. My BMW does that for the onboard computer display using a light sensor.

that's just for the vent leaver between the 2 centre vents. I think it just brings fresh air through there

i separated the climate control wires from the dash harness, 1 lot goes all the way down to the fuse box, and the rest of the wires go to the blue plug of the main dash harness, here's the difference in the 2 plugs:

Wow that's quite different to mine. None of mine go directly to the fuse box or main loom, it leeches off the standard controls loom instead.
