Re: PROJECT: Full bodied coil overs

This thread will tell you what is needed to install full bodied coilovers on a 1986 Honda Accord.
You will need to find a company that is willing to split up two different coilover kits. I went with No Limit motorsports. I bought D2 racing coilovers, because they were the only company I could find willing to do this split.
What you need

• 1988-1990 FRONT Civic Coilover Kit
• 1990-1993 REAR Accord Coilover Kit
• Factory 1986-1989 Honda Accord top hats
• A nut that will fit on the end of the rear lower shock bolt

Step 1: You must remove your struts and springs.
Step 2: Disassemble the top hat from the setup
Step 3: Disassemble the coilover kit.
Step 4: Now reassemble the coilover kits with the factory Accord top hats
Step 5: Bolt the coilovers kits back into the car.
Side Note: The D2 coilovers did not come with a nut for the rear lower shock bolt. You must find one that will fit and use that to bolt the struts down.

Ok guys here is a couple teaser pics. So I was going to do a whole DIY for this, but after arriving at my friends house I realized I didnt bring the card for my DAMN CAMERA :rant: . So I will have to explain how to do it in detail. I will do this in a DIY Coilover thread. I will also make a whole picture thread after I lower the car more and take the wheels off to take pictures of the setup. When they are set on level 36 the car rides so harsh I can feel every last bump, dip, rock, or anything in the road. I set them down to about 20 and they ride pretty nice. The back is still a little to stiff. Everything fit perfectly, and bolted together with no problem. The one delima I encountered was that the rear lower perch did not have a nut on it like the factory 3gee accord. Sorry for not having any good pics :thumbdn: .

Yes it goes anywhere between 1" and 3", before I think the struts would be under to much load.

They are mad of aluminum, i believe they do that for weight and to reduce the risk of rust.

thats about what mine are set at i have my perches upside down so it wont go any lower

Nice work. So what did you do to bolt the coilovers to the rear control arms? Did you just go find a nut that threaded on the bolt?

I read through it really fast, but what did you end up using for mounting the tops? just retain stock accord hats for front and rear?

So at the height you have it at now... how much lower could you go front or rear?... I have heard D2's are pretty decent quality coilovers.,

Yep that is exactly what I did, it fit perfectly with the poly bushing I am using.

Yep I used the factory top mount, the front and rears both worked perfectly with the coilover setup.

It would prob drop about another 2 inches, but I wouldn't go any lower then an inch more. That would prob destroy the struts and ride like crap.

The d2s are normally $850.00 a kit, but they charged me $250.00 a corner for the split up kit.

What they charged you extra?? Vultures!!! They should be giving you a discount instead for not selling suspensions for proper cars. :)

Yeah I thought it was a little odd, but I guess they end up with two kits that will have to be used for parts since they dont have a front and back.

awesome man they look great but too bad they charge extra to split them up though,I encounterd a problem with my tophats because I had to put them on the sedan to roll it around =(

I think if we did a group buy they would lower thw price imo

Yeah it's no problem, being the first always cost more money. I think we could get them to machine some top hats that match our cars for those coilovers, it we did a group buy.

looks awsome legend, but i have one question... how will you get up curbs?

Getting around is *not* that hard with low cars--you just have to expect some scraping every now and again.
