Where to Find Blackout Tape
Does anyone here know where I can find blackout tape? I found it online, but the shipping costs are outrageous. Someone on here a long time ago recommended it for recovering rear window trim that has the rubber coating peeling off. I think it would be easier that trying to scrape the rest of the rubber off, masking, and painting.
Does anyone else have a good way of dealing with this issue?
Gracias!

lol
I think that was me.
Go to the hardware store or any home electrical store and just get regular vynil electrical tape. It needs to be the wide roll. I think its like 1" wide.
I had put some on mine for about a year with wind snow rain and never came off. Just make sure its a good quality one like 3m. probablyrun you like 5-6 bucks.

I can definitely use electrical tape. I hope it holds up. It's so hot here in the summer that tape adhesive often melts, but it won't be that hard to try it. Thanks!
Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape
I used electrical tape too, and it works awesome!

Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape

Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape
yeah i got quality one also....i was like 3 bucks. it says it wont come off if its hot. thats always a plus
Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape
you can check my thread in the pics section to see how the painting looks if you do a good job.
i would go the thorough way rather than tacking on some tape.
Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape
Actually, I am probably going to replace the entire back glass along with the trim. I had the windows tinted in 1991 and though it was quality material the hosers broke four defroster lines. In Texas that was no great loss since I can count the number of times I have used the defroster in 18 years on one hand. But, the tint has turned blurry on me, but at least not bubbly and purple. I figure it might be best just to replace the entire window and get it tinted anew. I don't mind spending money on the car. I can order new trim from Majestic Honda and do it all at once. So, the tape is temporary, but it actually looks very good.
Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape
I'd much rather paint than tape. Your Honda dealer can get trim?? I called my local dealer and they said I'm SOL. Then again, I was looking for the quarter window trim. I assume you're referring to the rear window trim. Still that's cool, my 87 needs trim for the rear too. Do you know if your dealer can get quarter window trim? I'd MUCH rather buy NOS trim than paint if possible.

My bro just repainted it when the car was his and still looks new today :)

I would be ordering it from Majestic Honda. It seems like they can get anything. www.hondaautomotiveparts.com
Re: Where to Find Blackout Tape
I dont see how tape would last cause there is going to be air underneath it in the parts where the funky paint come off.
If any body want to paint it, be sure to get ALL of the old paint off first, it is messy as hell if you dont. The same thing is on 92-5 Civics on the door trim on bottom of the window. I was looking at my Accord and it is doing the same thing, I try not to look at it.. lol
