88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
as some of you may know, I bought an 88 Lxi about 6 months ago, it has an 87 Prelude motor swapped to EFI and it has an Auto tranny (I never had reverse or 4th gear) now, the other day I drove up to Wilsonville (40 mi away) to meet 2ndGenGuy and my tranny started what i think was slipping as we pulled into the parking lot. After I came to a stop at a red light, I tried to accelerate (about 1/4 throttle) and it started clunking and grinding very loudly and I thought it was going to die (like it wasn't getting enough fuel or throttle or somethin... same on the way home, I couldn't go over 55MPH on the way back home, I got home safely, parked it, next dat, WILL NOT START!!! I have filled it up with oil (which it was empty, they didn't hook up sensors) filled up coolant, and put some PS fluid in, but couldnt find my funnel for putting tranny fluid in. I cannot figure out why it won't start, It has always had a strong start, and I put all the fluid I should need in it. If anyone has any tips at all, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! this is URGENT that I fix this problem... thanks guys :violin::violin:

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
check connecitons at starter and batt.
check the shifter, put it in neutral and try it, hold the key on start and move the shifter from neu to drive and see if it does anything.

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
connections are fine, it just cranks continusly and never turns over

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
you ran it dry on oil??? that block could be toast man. check to see if your getting fuel, and check to see if your getting spark... i doubt your timeing belt broke.. but you could check that also to make sure its in time corectly

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
Man that is whack. Sorry that the trip to meet up cost you your car. Sounds to me like you are either not getting fuel or not getting spark. It sounds unrelated to what else you had going on with the transmission. Check all your fuses. Fuel pump, ECU, etc.
What do you mean by never turns over? The motor spins, but doesn't get any ignition right? Oh could also be timing belt I suppose...

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
Definitely sounds like no fuel or spark.

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
I agree. But it sort of fired in there didnt it

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
has fuel AND spark... im clueless now... Timing belt is good too
-
Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
Do you have a timing light? Maybe check to make sure it's firing properly and not completely out of whack. Also, check your spark plugs, you may be getting spark, but if the plugs are toast, it could be weak spark. Any ECU codes? Possibly the guy who swapped the engine pulled out the PGM-FI light to hide a potential problem?

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
no lights or sensors are hooked up... thats how i never knew i had low oil :(

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
Hmm... check the ECU for codes, since you can't disconnect that light.

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
So did you check those sensors? Are they still connected and wired properly? Maybe you just need to hit the junk yard and snag a couple of extras and give them a shot.

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
Now make sure you hook those lights and sensors back up so you can watch out for problems in the future before they become a real headache.

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
Nice! Is that wierd-ass sensor that you were getting the codes on inside the distributor?

Re: 88 Accord Lx-i Swapped, AT having troubles
wow I just started reading this thread and had an answer ready to post then right up to the end you nailed it!
I was going to say you could be getting spark when you test it in crank mode but the pickup or hall effect inside the distributor would not necessarily be signaling the igniter when the ign is in run mode.
And yes you should be getting things hooked up there.
