werd same here..tossed it away..save some weight and got a better ait filter on the c
Re: Intake Resonator Removal
the resignator on the intake system just quiets down the intake sound.... and also kills some power off aswell... id say ditch it
Re: Intake Resonator Removal
to obstruct the air? what i mean is...since the air isnt traveling straight...there isnt much noise kinda like a whistle.
i hope someone understand me lol
Re: Intake Resonator Removal
May be I need to try it myself.
I am interested in the fact that many tuners in Japan prefer to keep the OEM plastic intake against CAI - even some spoon racing cars.
The reason is that the OEM intake is already CAI and the Honda engine is tuned to utilize the pulse of the intake air that is created in the intake pipe.
I am no expert so I am not here to argue about it but also because of the MOT test we have here in UK I prefer to keep the OEM look.
Of course, if you fit after market CAI, you would remove the resonator but that is not the point I am interested.
Does anybody know about the relationship between this pulse and the resonator?
Re: Intake Resonator Removal
i prefer to think that the larger pipe diameter and smooth flow of a cai improves performance.........but bottom line, that air is getting into the engine no matter what....its not gonna use more air than it normally would just because you slapped on a cai. The stock units are fine....
ok let me revise a little bit....The car will breathe in more air and you will get an increase in gas mileage. I did. But it is doing this by running a bit more lean, because the intake manifold is taking in more air than it would before.
Re: Intake Resonator Removal
everything has a resonant freq
all that the wee resonant chamber is doing is tuning out that freq to quiet things down.
if you want to do a cai, stick the batt in the boot and make a box to fit in the batts old posi.
many people and that includes me just stick a big pod on the end of the throttle body and expect power increases.
the prob is that now the engine is sucking hot air from the engine bay and not from the factory location under the rh guard.
by building a box behind the rh headlight and leaving the front open, you sheild the filter from engine heat and get a good supply of cold air
thefactory intake system is fine but would replace the factory paper element with a k & n
