Pacesetter header to 2.25" exhaust & other questions

I got a few questions on putting 2.25" exhaust on some pacesetter headers. I think I'm right, but on the down-pipe won't you need to cut the 2" exhaust off & weld the 2.25" exhaust on at that point ( right before where the mounting bracket is) ? What kind of price & labor does a muffler shop do this for, if I get everything together? Refer to the pic below.
Edit- There will be a flex pipe installed also.


Also, are you guys getting magnaflow or flowmaster mufflers off ebay? I don't want to spend a ton of money on the exhaust, so I can get a mild grind cam & weber soon.

Not sure on your question but i keep hearing that without a flex pipe you will get annoying rattles. I remember meeting up with a member here who has a test pipe and it rattled.

Are you going to run a cat or no? I think with a cat, you won't need to cut off that 2" part on the downpipe. I would just do 2.25" after the cat.

I don't have to worry about emission laws, so I was just going to use a hi-flow cat (resonator), which is already there. Basically, I wasn't sure where you guys are starting the 2.25" piping at. I figured the closer to the header, the better.

Well I personally don't have an aftermarket header and use my cat even though I'm not in an emissions controlled section, so I couldn't provide expert knowledge on that. But in theory, I would guess that starting the 2.25" piping as early as possible would be the best bet.

yeah our 2.0 engine likes to flow....and 2.25 is the best....i heard some people going 2.5 but thats overkill if you dont have any mods

my 2.25" exhaust starts after the cat. of course, the cat is 2.25 itself, but welded onto the stock flange to bolt to my dc headers. since you're just running that test pipe, get another flange and bolt it on after the test pipe

You got a good deal on that header. $110ish shpped!! Buff it and ceramic coat it again and it will look brand new.

I did 2.25 from the test pipe back.

I'd like to ceramic coat it, but my wife will kill me if I put that exhaust in the oven. I got me a 32/36 weber with air cleaner & some adapter. Just need a mild grind cam & I'm done shopping this year.

the muffler shop down here in durham will tear your mouth off, but lucky i have family machanics with welding machines.$40.00 for 2.25 exhaust and muffler weld vs 100+ just for welding on a muffler on a vw golf gti. paid $20.00 for a 2.25 5ft tube and brought my cousine blades to cut my exhaust and some for him but gave him $20.00 for the weld. hook-up. the benifits of having the right ppl


i have the 2.25 straight pipping and a hanger on the muffler. (cant think of the name) if you take off that noise silencer, the aluminum covering over the exhause youll take off a couple of pounds and decrease the chances of rattle. but never had a cracked header, gasket or noise rattle. the noise all depends on the muffler. turbo mufflers are good

I'd like to make the piping from point A to point B. with 2.25".....
..... I decided to go with a 2" flex pipe to the high flow cat I have, which will need a flange welded on. The piping after the cat will be 2.25". Some of the work will be done & some won't, exhaust work is not my specialty. The weber carb rebuild will be. Here is some pics of some my exhaust. I plan on rebuilding my 32/36 weber when parts get here.

i'd like to have a whole new exhaust put on mine. i've got 2.25 from the cat back and the header. but i think i may go with a flex pipe like you've done, really dont like the rattling. i may go with an aftermarket catalytic converter also with new 2.25 piping since i think the cat is almost ready to go. but i dunno, that will be after i do some more stuff to my car. like maybe after i get the cam and new valve springs.
