Low beams problem

Found a few topics about this with a search but none on 2g's.
Last night i was riding home with the high beams on. When i pulled into my driveway i clicked them off and it went dark. But see, the switch was still in the headlight position so the low beams should have stayed on. Turned the switch off, then back on but still no low beams. Whats weird is the parking/side marker/tail- lights and blinkers all work. So i click the high beams again and both highs and lows come on.
I checked all the fuses and everythings good but i know there are headlight relays somewhere and my chiltons is totally useless. I assume they're behind the fuses where lots of other relays are (incl. fuel pump rel) Soooo, has anyone had this problem or know where the headlight relays are? I'm thinking its either that or the switch itself.
Tomorrow im riding to work with the highs unplugged running lows on the high beam switch so hopefully nothing else shorts out(FUBAR FTL).

its the switch, my lx (3g) had this same problem, you can take the switch apart and clean it and put new electrical greese in it should work great

I hope so. Because that sucker is $200 reman.

If there are relays for the low beams, I'm pretty sure they're up behind the fuse panel WAAAY up high under the dash. I know the blinker relays are up there and are a mega-pain-in-the-ass to get to. The reason your low-beams come on when the high beams are on is because your low-beam lamps have a high and low filament in them. It's also possible (but not probable) that the low beams are both burnt out.

On a 3rd gen there is a fuse for the right low, fuse for the left low, etc. I think it is the switch, and possible the fuses too.

I never knew that until this morning driving to work lol. I always thought they stayed on but dimmed out a little. That means the low beams aren't working at all then.

At any rate, im taking the switch out today to see what i can see. I might have to snag one from the j/y.

is that red 2g still at gavins?? its interior was mint so the switch is still good... theres a how to someplace on how to take apart and clean the switch for a 3rd gen.. im guessing there about the same

Thats the one i was thinking about, but my interior is mint as well and mine may be bad, also with that one having an electrical fire who knows what could have been shorted out. But i will try it anyway. because im cheap. sometimes. :)

So, i havent got to pull that switch yet, but i put some new low beams in today and they work. Could the switch be blowing the lights or you guys think its something else? Im gonna check the battery and alt when I find my volt tester.

On my first hatch when you went for high beams, as soon as you released the switch you'd get total darkness. The dimmer switch itself was buggered, which I replaced. I think you maybe just had the freak occurrence of both low filaments burning out.

A week later both the high filaments in the those bulbs blew out at the same time as well. I'm waiting to see if the new headlights fail the same way.

on my 82 all the light bulbs burned out at once LOL driving around WTF no more lights click on the high beams 5mins later they burned out replaced them all with new cool blues and they were still working when i sold the car :)

very common problem with 2g accords. even my uncle's 2.5gen, (which he bought new in 85' and still owns) has the same problem. i have also seen many 2gens with just headlamps(i believe high beam only) working with all round parking and tail lamps out. i suspect the switch though however it might be something a lot less troublesome like a fuse or sum burnt wires....always remember that fuses and relays burn out for a reason. check ur circuit before you change stuff.

if your bulb filaments are burning out that isn't the switch, check your electrical system voltage. make sure the regulator is good. If it's like my old civics it has the mechanical regulator. if it's still the original one it can be opened and the contacts cleaned,sometimes they stick. if it's been replaced with the aftermarket solid state one it can't be. on the old mechanical type regulators,they have contact points that open and close like a big relay. if the contacts stick it can cause the voltage to spike and burn out things like bulbs. this was a common problem on older cars with mechanical regulators. it was really bad in the old days when cars had all the lights on one fuse. your regulator would stick and poof all your lights went out,or the fuse would blow and all your lights went out. honda was one of the first car makers to put the different bulb fillaments on different fuses. if it has the mechanical regulator and you can open it,get some emory paper, don't use steel wool!! , and carefully clean the copper contacts and polish them. they arc where they make contact and can stick.

It's been awhile since the original poster put something up, but many times what people think is a total failure of the low beams is really just one side burning out, but never noticed, then the other side goes, at which point there are no lows at all. Putting in a couple of new high/low sealed beams fixes the problem.

(check my update thread) The car has some electrical issues now. Currently i'm working them out. Installing a new alternator melted the fusible link, blew every gauge/dash bulb, as well as all the bulbs on passenger side of car, the fuel pump, brake lights, and possibly killed the ICM. whoo hoo!!:flash:

I've already got one i just haven't gotten around to working on the 2g yet. Been stressin about the 3g (soon to be gone).

with all the mods planned up for dark accord's 3g. that would be a real mean machine...

anyway, it selling ur car always sucks but to me as long as it goes to a good home i would be happy. regards, dev...

It's being auctioned. So i dunno who's gonna get it, but If it doesnt bring what i want im taking it back.
