Keep in mind that he's not going to see car's that don't have problems, only the one's that do. So he's not talking to the vast majority of people that don't have trouble. Having been a member for close to 2 years, I just haven't seen anything out of the usual with our car being lowered (juan aka oldschoolswap is one that does ring a bell). Of couse the weaker the struts your running the more likely you'll see bottoming out, but even then that's not a cause to visit the shop usually.
How low do you plan to go?

i have never heard of a cars suspension getting outa wack when the car is jacked up....you will be fine lowering your car if you do it correctly

I can think of a disadvantage for me. I never seem to have that much extra money laying around! Had to replace the damn dishwasher last week because the pump sprung a leak and it seeped under the wall and soaked our new living room carpet.
There goes another $300. That would have been enough for a basic lowering kit, right?
-
300 umm nope.
the cheapest STRUTS you could go wit would be the tokicos and those are $240 by themselves...
Plus you gotta get springs, camber corrects..
break bread like I always say

One disadvantage is flooding...if it tends to flood in your area, as it does here.
