How to: passwordJDM battery relocator for Odyssey 680

I bought the "(EF '88-'91 Civic/CRX)" kit from passwordJDM and made it fit.

You don't need too many tools, I used a cordless drill, a dremel with some various bits, and also some files. I would have much rather used a drillpress/mill and do it properly but that's all I had.

This is everything I recieved, I ordered the box, battery and terminals and they also included some extra's.

Now to start, this is really quite easy to do... considering the tools I had it didn't take that much time.

Start by taking out the old battery, removing the tray and the support. Keep the support bolts as they will be used again(all 3).

The holes already on the plate would fit except it's too far towards the tranny so I had to modify it.

Once I had the support out I took a piece of cardboard(as long as the bracket) and lined it up where I wanted it to go, then poked the holes in it(where the bolts go).

After that I punched the right hand side one, drilled a pilot hole and then finished it with a 11/32 bit(this is enough for the bolt to still grab but have some slack to move around to fit). Since the bolt wouldn't sit flat on the plate I had to cut away some material.

After that I put the bolt in and did a test fit, I decided to move the left hole down a bit(thank you test fit). Once I was happy I did a pilot hole and then the bigger one. I then did the larger hole(I used a 5/8 bit), drilled it down around half way and then grinded the rest out to be somewhat near flat.

I didn't want the box to support all the weight and I had this extra shelf bracket kicking around so I decided to use it as a support. I put the box in(test fit), drew my lines and proceeded to cut it up. I also drilled another hole on the side, made it a bit oblong so that I could make sure it would touch the bottom of the battery.

After everything fit properly I painted it black, after it dried I put it together.

Bolt in the upper and lower bracket and then put the battery in(I put the box on the battery first and then put it in), put the nuts on and bam!

Then put your connections on, I had to bend that ground bracket out of the way so it would fit.

I also put petroleum jelly on the terminals as to avoid corrosion(just incase).

That's it.. pretty easy, looks way the hell better and shaved about 20lbs.

I still have to move my CAI out properly(one of the reasons I did this mod), but I have to take the bumper off and that is going to have to wait till another day.

I will also be upgrading all the wiring later on.

thats the same kit I bought about a year ago. Its a great setup. mine is still on the shelf awaiting installation. Its a good thing to see it installed and hear it is as easy as i thought it would be. Let me know if you think the smaller bater compares to the large previous unit. Thats my next drawback.

No i taught the same bro. BUT even my haynes manual says to even use that for the battery terminals.

Maybe dielectric grease is the same as petroleum jelly. I wouldn't be surprised.

coke will literally eat through a human tooth in a matter of hours, its no surprise it takes care of corrosion lol

Not quite, I'm not saying coke's good for your teeth but it won't dissolve one in hours. It would eventually dissolve a tooth, but so would orange juice, or amything else containing acids.

looks good!! I'm going to run the 625 model, but i built the box out of the old tool box, to go behind the seat. You don't need to put anything on those terminals, thats a carry over from batteries with regular liquid electrolyte, these batteries don't out gas anything, and the acid is trapped in the mat in the battery. You shouldn't have any problems with it, there's a LOT of energy in that little battery. the main thing to remember is if you have to charge it back up, get one of the chargers on their list, a lot of cheap battery chargers will cause the battery to charge at too high of a voltage, this causes the emergency vent to open, the battery outgasses, and it's ruined. Look on their site and they have an entire list of chargers, these batteries have an expected life of over ten years.

they can be mounted at any angle except upside down, actually i think they may be able to go upside down too,can't remember. one thing to remember, is the cranking amps may seem low on the specs, but they test at 0 degrees F, most other battery makers test at 32 degrees F. the minimum testing spec is 32 so they test at it to get better figures. The oddysesy produces a lot more amps at regular temps, They also can put out a lot more amps faster then a standard battery of the same spec. the trick is they use super high quality plates to produce more current and they compress the wrapped insides of the batery into the case,this gives a smaller lighter battery with comparable current output to a regular battery. There are OEM manufacturers using these batteries now, as well as an aircraft certified version, this technology is finally going to put the dinosaur old type batteries to an end. Thats one thing i'll be glad to see gone. no more leaks or frozen batteries, or explosions from the hydrogen escaping from them, they also won't die from letting them run down a couple of times. no more acid eaten battery trays eithier.

My kit costs about $20 so I think Im sticking to it lol, but nice writeup and pretty parts.

as long as you feed them with the right charger if they run down, they are almost indestructible, I know a lot of people with hot rods and they run these. very tough battery.
