'82 UK project

Unwittingly my '82 has become very much a project car over the past few months following its longer than planned period off the road. As a continuation of my thread in the mechanical section 'EL timing belt woes', I have decided to have a more appropriately titled thread in the general section.

After having got the timing sorted... as far as I'm aware, I sorted the carburation and I've now just taken delivery of a new brake master cylinder so I can get the stoppers working again & hopefully solve the last of the running issues following the disappearance of the brake fluid & the resultant vacuum maladies.

For various reasons work on the car is always slow progress with me, but the fact I'm doing anything at all is something to shout about. I hope to get the master cylinder fitted in the next few weeks & get the brakes bled, then I'll see about getting the a-post/floor area welded... I want it done right though. Had I known about this rust before I got rid of the '83 spares car, I'd have cut a section off that shell to aid repair!

I've also got the central locking to fix - no idea whats wrong with it & there doesn't appear to be a fuse that the circuit runs through? The actuator in the drivers door has been tested ok, but it has no power getting to it?

I'm sorting the radio wiring back to stock, fitting an additional speaker to the drivers door & I need to repair the aerial lead that I inadvertantly pulled the aerial connector off!

I've replaced the twin air horns that were fitted with stock Honda horns for the genuine jap sound but still need to finish the wiring - want it to look as though its not been tampered with.

Still in a quandry as to what to do with my wheels... aftermarket alloys, 2gee Prelude alloys or stock steels? Steelies are maybe doing it for me...

In the future I've got to change the cam as my one is knackered & I wanna rebuild & fit my PAS rack. All this to do & no time to do it... Great!!

Can't wait to see pics. Sounds like you've got quite the project to undertake! All those little details not working are what drive me nuts on my car. I've got a ton of little stupid things to fix myself. Slow power windows, some sticky switches, things like that. Keep up the good work. I'd love to see the guts as you work on this stuff so we can compare to US models! If you want some nice wheels, the newer OEM wheels I think look great. The 2g Prelude wheels look a bit dated IMO, and some of the newer Civic and Fit wheels or any 4x100 setup actually look pretty nice. I'd go with at least a 14, but no bigger than 15 to not make it look over the top.

Den, Chin up feller, locked in the workshop during the dark winter nights will be the worst bit, but as it comes together it gets better day by day. John

Unbelievably I've already fitted the new brake master cylinder & had the car out the garage again. Yet to bleed the brakes though. Instead I'm gonna concentrate on the few easy odd jobs that need fixing as there are just too many of them & that way I'll be able to get my head round the other more significant problems.

And I'm gonna try & find my digicam!

Well I never did get round to taking pics & I never did get much work done on this one either!!

Last time I did anything to the car was in 2012... I had it sitting running, then I think the crankshaft oil seal blew & it lost all it's oil on the garage floor! After that bit of discouragement I've never done any more to it, but I'm hoping this year will remedy that.

I tried fixing the central locking to no avail, but I did successfully change the radio for a cassette deck out of a '83 & I fitted a speaker to the drivers door... looks 100% factory stock which I'm happy with :) I fitted perfect original 13" steels with new tyres & my 2gee Prelude alloys appear to have been stolen so there off the cards I guess!

So this year I'm hopefully looking at finally welding up the rusty bits, changing the engine or rebuilding my current one, but I would like PAS to make it a nicer drive once it's back on the road. And I need to get a bit of paintwork done where corrosion has returned.

On the plus side if/when finished it'll look minty fresh, drive great & be an über rare sight on the roads here in the UK :)

Really missing my '85 EXR I sold in 2012, so this is possibly giving me the impetus to actually get the '82 back on the road.
