win.. at 170k miles my civics hone marks were gone
My suzuki engines usually only last 140k-180k... That's pretty damn good.
What's up with the buildup in the coolant passages?
Well while pulling the head off i forgot to drain all of the oil and antifreeze, and that got spilt in between. As well as more grease chunks and there are some pieces of chocolate coconut donut on there too haha. I blew off the pistons before hand otherwise they look like that too. :)
Also the coolant was old as crap and that probably didnt help any. Either wasy block is getting hot tanked and all that so itll be better than new when I get done.
cast iron ftw
you still need to run a hone through it before you put in the new pistons, always always do. then clean the crap out of it again. get a gun cleaning kit and take out all the freeze plugs and just keep cleaning it. The hot tank is great, but it's just a start to getting it super clean. don't be afraid to use soap and water, just dry after you are done. and before you take out the pistons make sure you get a ridge reamer to take off the ridge at the top, you may not even be able to see it but it will catch the rings when the piston slides out.
