Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
Hi there. This is my first post here. I am a long time Honda owner and the original owner of a 91 CRX Si. My father owned a 1987 Accord LX Sedan when I was a teenager and I still have fond memories of that car.
I am currently looking at a Canadian 1988 LXi sedan. It has 230,000kms (143,000 miles), no rust, a small dent on the driver's door, BUT, the engine needs a head gasket. The asking price is dirt cheap at $250, but I'm wondering if I'm going to be entering a money-pit nightmare. Your website doesn't allow links for newbies, but if you put an http in front of the url below, you can see it.

Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
Thanks for posting the link. I'm waiting for a reply to a couple questions I've sent to the owner. The real challenge will be convincing my wife that we need a fourth car in the driveway. She's going to think I'm .
Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
tell her you plan on buying it as a fixer upper then turning over for a profit. :D that works for me haha just end up keeping it and say you grew attached to the car
Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
i would replace the headgasket...just take the head to the machine shop so they can check if its straight
Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
I've seen a lot worse than that. I bought my second Honda with the crankshaft in the trunk. I rebuilt the engine and loved it. It really worked out well for me.
Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
dude that is totally worth 250........ even if you have to shave the head and pay somebody else to do the gasket you're lookin at most a 1000 bucks...... looks to be in excellent condition.....I'd hit it lol
Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
Tell her it gets 30mpg and it's $250? Go get it man.
Re: Looking to get back into a 3rd gen
Looks clean as hell. I'd buy it even if the wife disagreed
