Direct "drag and drop" swap??

At the risk of getting flamed and bombed out...I'm gonna ask the question anyway...

I have an '89 Accord LX automatic with 76k miles which of course came with the carb...and the damn maze of vacuum lines...

I would love to get rid of the carb hassle and change her over to FI. My friend says the easiest way to do this is just find another '89 Honda Accord with the LX-I engine and drop it into my ride.

Is this true? Can I just do a direct swap from and LX to an LX-I motor of the same year?

Here in CA we are lucky as we have tons of places that sell refurbished Japanese motors. I found a super clean '89 LX-I for $700.

its not so much the engine itself you need for the swap but it would be nice to have a rebuilt A20A3 motor, its components like fuel rail, injectors, throttle body, intake manifold, ECU, etc....... plus you will need to put in a fuel pump and im not sure if that means you need a tank for a FI car or not or if you can use an aftermarket setup. Its a lot of work though. probably easier to just buy a FI model and sell the carb model if you really want it to be FI.

We used to have a couple write-ups around here on the process. It's a doozy. Much easier and cheaper to buy an FI car.

Anyone still have the write-up hanging around somewhere that we can host up on the wiki?

if you want EFI done the proper way, you have to pull off the front bumper, fenders, dashboard, heater/fan/air con stuff, seats and other bits and pieces to swap the cars main loom with all the control boxes and stuff (only need the cars front half), and you have to swap the fuel feed line that goes from the tank to the engine bay as well (which is inside the car, behind everything), and you have to swap the fuel tank with the pump. Once all that is done, then you can simply swap in a EFI A20, plug it in & go. You're welcome.

At 76,000 miles, I'm assuming this car is pretty mint. I'd consider the swap. Buy a running crash car and swap it all. It could be done in a weekend with a couple of people working.

There used to be a how-to, but it might have missing pictures. I thing Carotman had it up.
