93-97 camaro headlight as fog lights?

About a month ago I was at the pick-a-part and I was looking to score some rare parts (especially fog lights) for my car but no luck. As I was walking through the camaro section and I saw a camaro with small rectangle headlights and it gave me an idea but I wasn't too sure so I left. About a week ago I decide to make a quick stop by the pick-a-part again to see what I could find and with my luck I managed to find NOTHING! lol I knew I had to leave but I decide to check out the camaros. I was lucky enough to find one with an unbolted headlight so I took it. I went to the accord section to stick it in a bumper opening. To my amazement IT FITS!!! Even though I was giggling with excitement, cause I've been looking for fog lights for the past 6 months, I couldn't buy anything cause I'm forgot my wallet. :banghead: On my way home I was making plans but a possible problem popped into my head. Do you guys think that I'll have any legal issues with me putting headlights as fog lights?......Here is the pic I took and sorry for long story

good eye at the yard man! I think the Chevy truck (a few models) used the same small headlamp assy too?

I saw a late model Explorer that has oem fogs, the opening is square and flush, about the right size .. may work on the Accord. The actual light is recessed as well as sets at an angle even though it points streight, I would have to look at one again to be sure but it would give the illusion the bumper was more curved.

I like them, but I'd have to see them in real life - they look small. As far as legality, check your states laws on fog lights...all Washington State says is that you have to have two (unless none, but no more or less than two) and they have to be the same height off of the ground and the same distance from the center of the vehicle.

Aren't those little rectangular headlights sealed beams? That might actually work in your favor since the low position of these kinds of lights tends to lead to them being taken out by rocks. But, on the other hand, sealed beam headlights have thinner glass lenses than actual driving or fog lights.

So far that is the only car I've seen that has those lights.....you should try out the explorer's fogs, may be a good find.

There just a tiny but smaller than I would of wanted but its definitely worth putting on. I've seen the bosch ones and the ones on 3geez wiki and they seem to big for my taste.

There not sealed beams cause I was able to take the light bulb out. The glass seemed pretty thick when I was looking at it.

Cool. I guess I was thinking of something older than early 90's. I realized that after I posted.

exactly how you have your car on rims is how my yard has there cars lol but id use them lights as my regular lights and get rid of my pop ups and get a full hood from an 90-92 and itll cover up the old headlight spot.

Well I haven't been able to pick these up yet since I've been kind of busy but I do plan on going today if I don't work. I'll keep you guys posted.

@vtechkiller If thats what you want to do, go for it but IMO I think the pop up lights is what gives these accords their uniqueness!

Those lights fit the car perfectly. As long as they don't distract/blind other drivers, I'd be really surprised if you had any trouble with the police. I say go for it.

you know those kind of look like my fogs. i think i need to take a trip to the junkyard and find some and see if they are the same size. that would make more sense than replacing these sealed beam fogs 2x's a year... lol

minty: It could be a good alternative but I think yours are a bit wider.

UPDATE: I managed to got to the jy and pull a pair of these lights along with some other goodies for my car. While I was there, I did learn something interesting. Apparently there are two different headlight housings. One made by Guide (I think) and the other by Sylvania (the one I got). The Guide look the same, the only thing different is that the bulb is sealed in there with some type of glue which needs be applied again if you want to put the bulb back on. Since I didn't want to deal with that I got the Sylvania cause even though they also have some type of sealant, the bulb can be put back cause of the locking mechanism they have. Also, a few days earlier I sneaked in before they closed to check if new accords came in. I was in a hurry so I took a short cut through the car and to my surprise found a cutlass supreme with (I think) the same headlights as the camaro so maybe those could be used. I'll get to work and mount them, then paint them yellow!!! :naughty:

A while ago, I tried on the Sylvania "performance" sealed headlights - the ones in my car were no better than candles.

Took one from a car in the junkyard; it was an "extravision" and because they are marked "performance" in the lens they are easy to spot. I tried one ($2) and it made a huge difference with the crap I had installed. The next time I went I took another sealed unit and threw away the crap I had.

For $4 it was the the best fix I could get for the headlights. It does not match euro lightning sharpness though.

Is there any mark in the glass or back of the headlight that identifies them somehow? Like number, model or something?

They fit kind of tight on there so I think I'll cut the top part but I'm not sure. I know what kind of head lights you're talking about, the ones I've been trying to find are the "silverstar" but those are hard to come by. So far I only have one. I haven't had a chance to take the metal housing off so I really don't know.

Those look cool, but I still think they're too small. You've had me thinking for days, though - looking at every car's headlights to see if they could be fitted to my car as fogs. I realized, though, that there's a size of glass bulb that's between our cars' headlights and those Camaro's headlights...a lot of small 80's American sedans have them. I'll find some and post pictures.

edit: The front of your car is hella clean! You should make it hella tidy and take some nice pictures for my iMac's wallpaper.

I took the metal housing off and found that the lights are H4351.

Those aren't going to put out the right pattern for fog lights. Head lights throw, fog lights scatter. If you turn those on at night, they're going to blind oncoming traffic. In many states, it's illegal to run them at any time other than when driving through fog. Since headlights tend to make the fog bright white and not illuminate softly, they'll be useless in the fog as well as being illegal to use in many areas at other times.

I actually bought some of those cutlass lights a long time ago with the same inention, just never got around to it..

As for the fog lights and all this talk about blinding people, just aim that shit down and call them driving lights. What's the problem?

The road surface is shiny, especially when wet. That light reflects up from the road surface into the eyes of oncoming drivers. You don't get the glare when you're driving through fog because the light barely gets through directly, much less after being reflected.

Not trying to be difficult, but help me understand how these lights are going to be a problem. There are at least a half million Oldsmobiles, GMC trucks and Camaros out there with these very lights mounted on the front and I haven't been blinded by a single one. I have, however, been blinded plenty by those fake-O Xenon, eBay foglights. So too have I been blinded by the real Xenon headlights that blast you every time the car hits a bump. It kinda feels like we're picking nits here. There are countless examples of every different kind of light you can hope to buy and put on the front of your car: fog lights, driving lights, auxiliary lights and utility lights. I haven't conducted a double-blind study, but I bet you would have a hard time telling the difference based on light pattern alone. Whatever you call obdriver6's lights, they look nice on the front of his car and provide a lot more light.
