Did you replace the rotor?
No I did not replace the rotor...
Does smoke all the time?
And why would you only replace one side pads?
I replaced the driver and passenger side brake pads. I came home through at a maximum speed of 45 mph and it did not smoke.
Possible that the caliper stuck closed when you pushed it in the put the new brake pads on. Other thing I could think of is you didnt clean all the greasy fingerprints off the rotor.
Big thing to look for is excessive heat. If that caliper is stuck it will over heat in a few miles.

It was the caliper.....however, now my brake lights stay on.
low brake fluid or your e brake is on.

i have the e brake on because its a manual & the reservoir is full.
Sorry I read that the brake light on the dash was on.
There is a push button switch mounted top of the brake pedal (underdash) that triggers the brake lights.

sounds lie a classic case of sticky slides to me
