Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
Nice! Do you have an infrared scanner mounted in the key hole or are you just missing the lock cylinder? LOL
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build

Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
So I took this in to get it's cali SMOG, sad to say it failed nox by over 300ppm. working on this problem
But I did have some other stuff I needed to get on the car so after work today I installed both new fuel filters and the new pcv vale( still had the old style plastic one). While replacing the fuel filters I took it upon myself to replace the fuel lines under the car, while doing this I found that the rear fold down key thing is broke:hmph:. Next step for today was to install the prothane front sway bar links. Need to do the bar to frame mounts, anyone know the prothane number?
No pictures today but Wednesday I will be doing the lowering coils on the front and rear with new struts. Along with new outer tie rod ends and a power steering rack.
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
High NOx is almost always an EGR problem. Are you getting a check engine light? You didn't go gross polluter, did you?
We need to be more activist on this board about keeping people out of the weeds when it comes to California smog checks. They've changed it all around again since introducing the Star smog checks. From what I've read, if you fail too many smogs, California makes you do the Star smog, which is like the uber-Nazi smog check. You don't want smog failures being reported to the state. Pre-tests are not reported. If the shop tells you they don't do pre-tests, then leave and go somewhere that does.
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
We need to round up all the minty 3geez in Cali, and have them sent to Texas where they are rewarded for lasting so long!
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
im so glad i dont have to deal with that smog crap. how many miles ya got on that?
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
Well it doesnt have a CEL on, only failed GP the first smog test, it was non-oped so it required a star test to start. Failed 350ppm on the nox at 15mph passed on the 25mph by 7ppm. Guess this means something in the black box is not turning the EGR on. Has 184500 miles on it...
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
Or the egr and port may need yo be cleaned.
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
Hate acting like a prick:rant:.... BUT FUDGE I am a master tech the first think i did was manually activate the egr... stalled out even at 1500rpm the egr port is clean...just not being activated... will post more on what I find on wednesday, plan is to figure out the egr, install new power steering rack and drop it down some:rockon:
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
Oh, right. You have a carb, so no CEL. Um...good luck with that one. LOL
There are some EGR troubleshooting tests in the manual starting on p. 11-71. Keep us posted on what you learn. I'd be happy to hear more about what they do at a Star test. I'm pretty familiar with the normal test, but the Star test is a new bureaucratic abuse I haven't yet had the pleasure of enduring.
I love this state. You can put pink slime in the meat and BVO in soft drinks and feed it to people. You can spray the most amazing poisons over the food crops. But if your car is slightly over its smog limits, you have to junk it and ride your bike. It's time for some serious house-cleaning in Sacramento.
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
So tonight I put the new front & rear struts with drop coils and replace the radius arm bushings. O and installed me new power window switch:bong:
Will have new pictures up tomorrow..
Then the fun stuff starts checking EGR bull shit!!
Re: griffs68's 1988 LX Build
So if you non-op the car, then they want a Star inspection when you go to put it back on the road?
